But that's the point - a niche criteria makes sense in a lot of cases, because it's actually trying to promote a very specific group. When the criteria is just "women or nothing", that's not specific at all. Your potential applicant pool is half the world (in theory), and the other half is excluded because they are not female. How does that benefit anyone? Women means rich women, poor women, smart women, not so smart women - literally any woman can qualify for it, but no man can qualify for it, …

Sure, your point is fair. However, there is a difference between equity and equality. You can objectively determine through several indicators that certain communities are more well represented in certain segments of society than others. Agreed. Also, it's interesting how the so called feminist fight for equality is only when it's convenient. I don't see any women advocating to work in a factory, which is where I work now.
