Knowing that my partner will protect me doesn't relate to submission for me, though. I protect and take care of him, too. But I still don't think that you described what submission looks like. What does a submissive woman do differently? I get that you believe she will submit if she feels her man can and will take care of you but what is she doing? What are the submissive behaviors?

Posts about submission drive me batty because the concept is never defined. Wtf does a submissive women look like according to you, OP?

So I will be transparent: I grew up around the Amish and Mennonite so I had a decent view into how it functions. And second, I am a therapist who specializes in trauma. Trauma can play a part in maintaining order in those societies. Some of us have tried to make the argument that it's not submission that makes people remain in those communities but more insidious methods of control and abuse. Intermittent reinforcement/trauma bonding is strong and so are the mechanisms of authoritarianism in fun…

What function do you believe trauma plays in these communities? And regarding my impression that you like weak women: just the vibe of your post. You seem to think it's a good thing that there will be an increase in submissive women and decrease in feminist boss babes.

Yep, totally aware. I actually grew up in an area with a high population of Amish and Mennonite and that's really how I know that OP is not understanding the culture and therefore it's a terrible example. Had a handful of classmates who were allowed to attend the public school but forced to drop out after 8th grade.

Today I learned that people who give into religious control and coercion are weak.../s Why are you into weak women?

It's not a breeding mechanism if people are programmed to fear leaving. It's coercion and control. Don't put words in my mouth. It's not weakness to be afraid to leave everyone and everything you know and attempt to make it on your own alone in the world with the "English." Your example isn't good. Find a new one.

Amish and Mennonite stay in the community despite experiencing life outside their religion via Rumspringa because they are otherwise shunned by everyone they have ever known. Just excommunicated by their community and family. It's a very powerful mechanism of control and not because they are inheriting submission... Also you are greatly underestimating the negative impact this relationship dynamic has upon daughters. Many women disliked watching their mothers submit to their fathers and vow to c…

So, let's play a wild hypothetical and assume she could actually help. Maybe she can fight, is really strong, carries a machete, has a good kick, idk. You would reject her help and risk injury because that isn't as bad as being emasculated? I cannot wrap my head around that. A long time ago, when my mother was pregnant with my brother, three dudes followed my parents into a gas station parking lot because they think my father cut them off. My father got out. Two of the dudes held him down and th…

It's hard to believe that you wouldn't feel hurt at all if your girl stood by and watched bad crap happen to you. I don't buy it.

You wouldn't want a woman to protect you? Seriously. My husband and I are far from conservative but I'd throw down for him if I had to. I wouldn't stand by and watch if he was in a fight or physical danger.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/02/24 03:45 PM

So, let's say the father can determine if a guy is a decent dude and would be a respectful and loving partner. But that says nothing about compatibility, chemistry, genuine connectedness, attraction, etc. How can you vet for chemistry or attraction? I accept that some fathers are able to identify a good man but that doesn't mean they can identify a man that is a good match for their daughter. Many others are providing anecdotal rebuttals in here. Women who have fathers who were absent or just tr…

Confirmed. My husband is an engineer and whew... That critical thinking skill set is mega attractive.

We each had to work on our individual stuff and that in turn helped the relationship. And yes, a fair amount of communication and largely understanding and patience from my husband who was able to be receptive to what I had to say on why I had been turned off.

I went through a period of lost attraction to my husband but regained my desire. But it wasn't regained from this: a woman who doesn't want to fuck a man can't have her mind changed with household chores or dates. It is soooo often deeper than that and is incredibly reductive about women's sexuality and desire.

As opposed to putting on a performance to pretend to enjoy it? If anyone is starfishing during sex, you should stop sex.

This doesn't feel new? I look very feminine but I'm pretty rough around the edges, forward, the opposite of meek and prior to marriage received consistent feedback from interested dudes that they are attracted to those traits. I am formerly religious (fundie) and my husband has sometimes marveled at any culture preferring a submissive woman. He thinks it seems boring. He likes some spice, always has, and I don't think this is a new trend. He jokes if we are ever mugged his biggest challenge woul…

100%. My husband is an engineer and whenever I witness his critical thinking, problem solving skills... It's on. Intelligence greatly, greatly enhances how attractive someone is in my eyes. I've been saying that I'm into nerds since I was a teenager.

And the dumb and lazy men in commercials or tv shows still had the sexy and competent wife and was usually successful. It's a shitty trope for men and women.

Subreddits like this have enabled me to understand RP language in case my clients start speaking that way. So, despite the trolls, it has still been useful.

I try really hard to pay attention to spaces or demographics or groups that I can't really relate to nor am a part of, just so I won't be a trash therapist simply because I am working with a client who isn't exactly like me. I also would like to avoid being totally clueless.

I am a therapist and I talk about this type of compatibility often with my clients. It's really fascinating how resistant people can be when considering the important of compatibility. Many people seem to know the important of compatible values but lifestyle stuff? Not so much.

The one dude was not honest about having herpes and told me after we became sexually active. I got lucky, not contracting it. And the other guy I was really confused, after a few months of dating, on why I wasn't super into him or looking forward to hanging out with him. Other than looks, he had a lot of great qualities other women would be into (all my girlfriends went a little crazy about him, actually). Super nice dude, bought his first house around 22, fixed up old cars, same sense of humor,…

Wishful thinking on your part. But no. I initiated those break ups with the very tall dudes. But you're just likely going to say I'm a liar, I can't prove it, blah, blah, blah. All in an effort to tell a woman you don't know that she's not attractive basically.

I'm 5'8. Shortest I dated was 5'6. Dated two other dudes who were same height as me, one was a pretty seriously relationship. My husband is 5'11. I used to say my ideal was a lot taller than me. Dated two dudes were around 6'8. Sort of been all over the place. The shorter dudes I just liked and was attracted to so height didn't matter.

she needs to disclose every detail of her sexual past and also offer me just as good sex as, or better sex than, her previous partners. This is suuuuuuuper interesting. You mentioned quality as opposed to the actual sex acts. How does one determine if the sex is as good as she had with past partners? And how do you determine the sex you're offering is as good as or better than her past partners?

My husband and I are super compatible in many ways, so it basically feels like he is a best friend that I have sex with. So, I think he gains compatible and fun companionship. A partner who can read his mood and stress levels and will inquire on how he is feeling, someone who cares and notices him. He gains support and encouragement for his career and education goals, for his hobbies and interests. I do most of the cooking and cleaning, having a more flexible work schedule than him, so that enab…

I know there is a significant minority of women who feel this way (I even have a few friends like this), and honestly I've come to the conclusion that they are either having issues with their sexuality (are lesbian/asexual and haven't realised it), have histories of legitimate abuse/trauma that has been left unaddressed, have started viewing sex as extremely dirty/shameful due to conditioning of some sort, or simply have no attraction to their partners. Or, how about, they have had a lot of bad …

Another example is feeling respected. I value respect more than love. If I had to choose between the two in a a relationship, hands down I would choose respect, because that feels like safety.
