It feels like y'all are on different levels when she drunk texts because you are. If the texting ended for whatever reason, she's getting back in touch with you for a number of reasons, most of which aren't great. The best possible scenario is that she's really shy, but is able to articulate with a little liquid courage. Although if she was able to confirm for you that she had a man for evening, I wouldn't bet that this scenario was accurate.

As a grad student, can you still participate in the university extracurricular activities/groups? In my experience it was the norm, especially for volunteerism, special interest groups, and coed rec league sports. It seems like it would be easier there to make contacts, or potentially get into a crowd where you'd be in an accepted college (not townie) 'clique' when they all went out on the town.

You use the word 'anymore'in your title; did you use to be successful at this?

I really wouldn't recommend the hot chick scenario.

She really didn't just want food.

Understood. But when a girl says 'she's talking to someone,' I thought that meant she was technically single but wasn't pursuing other options at that time because she had something in the works, so to speak. So she's saying she is single, but not available.

So you'd prefer it if a girl was up front with it and said that she was single but not available?

Why is that term frustrating? Just curious.

As an older female, having watched some of my male friends in college go through this, they would have been so much better off without the negativity their crew gave them, period. I know the joking is all in fun, but sometimes it can be really demoralizing. For some of my guy friends back in the day, it would have been so much more productive if their male peers had just said hey man, whatever you want to try out is cool, I got your back.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
