My ex didn’t want hugs but still complained about not getting them.

Not sure what to tell you. Recommend you talk to a lawyer and see if you can get a free consult. Maybe there can be a payment plan, a cash out refi of your house, I dunno. How is she paying for this large procedure if you have no money? How is her behavior any different if you file for a legal separation (which I don’t think you can do without her consent, but I am not a lawyer)? If you decide you can’t do anything without $20k you don’t have, you won’t do anything.

Well, if I were you I would check out your county’s website and see if they have the forms to file for divorce on your own. There is also usually some good, basic advice about how things work. I personally tried an online service that basically just did a bad job with the forms already published on the web. You can almost certainly file without a lawyer, but it will be difficult, and most would recommend not doing it because of all the potential pitfalls.

This story does not add up. OP, if you have $2-3M in assets, sell some and get a lawyer.

Man, I wish I had some solutions to throw your way. All I can say is that life is hard, but it's not always as hard as it is for you right now. I'm 48, and if I could give my younger self some advice, it would be that today's crisis will not last forever. Hang in there.

Sometimes you have to reach out to people and ask for help. It's hard to do. But at one of my lowest points in life, I was forced to ask for help, and it really helped!

Friends are more likely to be supportive right after a separation. There will be some settling after a while. But you also have to recognize that it may be harder for you to be friends with happily married people. Or you'll end up hanging out without your friends' wives. Give it some time, lots of grieving and healing to do. Be kind to yourself. Maybe seek out some therapy. You're probably not as happy as you think you are, but you will be some day when you're really over the previous relationsh…

In my state, child support was mandatory. We adjusted spousal support down to account for it. But both parents incomes are taken into account in the formula. So if you have pretty equal incomes, it might not be bad.

If nothing else, counseling might be a good way to break it to her that you’re not happy. And you never know, this early in your relationship it might work. But it sounds like she has some real mental health issues, or at the very least, the two of you don’t have a shared vision of what marriage looks like. I was married for 23 years to a woman kind of like this, and I put up with her narcissistic behavior the whole time. I was willing to keep doing so, but in the end she was done with ME. And l…

For what it’s worth, once you get the new place set up, you’ll probably end up spending quite a bit less on food and utilities.

She is 21, I’m 47. She’s not dictating, she’s telling me how she feels about me dating someone close to her age. It didn’t feel like an unreasonable thing to say.

My older daughter told me anyone I date needs to be closer to my age than hers. Seems fair.

You have to recognize that you’re going through a process of grieving, and that takes time. Unfortunately no one can say how long it will take, everyone is different. But calling it grief out loud and talking about it as such is helpful, at least it was for me.

As was said before, this is a huge loss, and it’s proper to grieve over it. If therapy helps, absolutely do that. It’s been about 10 months since I separated from my STBXW, and there are times when it still really hurts. You’ll have good days and bad days. Focus on being healthy, get plenty of sleep, and the strength to do what needs to be done will be there when you need it. You’re gonna be okay.

I don't have an answer, but I do have the same question. My STBXW and I are likely to agree on everything so I'm kind of in the same boat.
