because emotional wreckage and pettiness is a trait reserved for women. a masc guy will harbor prejudice and go "oh look, that gay looking prettyboy has more success than me" coupled with a sprinkle of passive aggressiveness, but they won't have a visible emotional freakout, online or irl.

actually let me rephrase that, they're both playing in the sexual selection game but prettyboys don't have to compete as hard due to their looks appealing to the female gaze. guys will see a masc guy and know that he has other qualities making him a worthy mate (i.e. protective, fighting ability, etc), while they see a prettyboy and know that all they did was exist to get the same results as the masc guy.
