Lots of marital neglect between us as the kids got older. My youngest graduated from high school 6 months ago. My wife also drags out stuff from 17 years ago when the kids were young. I can’t argue with that. I don’t even remember it. I hope she realizes how sincere I am about rebuilding our marriage and growing old together. I really do love her but she is having a hard time believing me based on the distance that grew between us. I know she is still very much considering continuing our marriag…

33 years together 27 married here. I sort of did the same thing. I told my wife I was incredibly sad about how things have gone between us and I want to try and reconnect otherwise maybe it's time to go our separate ways. And she moved out. I freaked out and told her that is not what I wanted and that I really want to rebuild our marriage. We still talk all the time and she says she is just taking a break. That was 3 months ago now. She's thinking she might take a break for a year. I might go ins…

This is not a new relationship. This is a close friendship that has existed for many years. But as my wife and I retreated from each other she relied on her friend more and more. It's that friendship and the support from that friendship that has made it easy for her to separate from me. I know how this all sounds. Like she has her cake and is eating it too. And in a lot of ways that is very true. But I just can't force her to come back to me. It will only drive her away more because it's not her…

I absolutely agree with you about letting her know that I will walk away from her because I don't want to live like a zombie for the rest of my life trying to save something that she won't help me save. I'm not quite there yet. Yes she is the one who left and she is the one who will ultimately be the one who gave up even if I'm the one to end it for good. I do hope my marriage works out but I'm not really expecting it to. I think by now she would have started to soften her heart more toward me b…

Yes the idea that she is going to monkey branch has always been my greatest fear even before we got married and a major reason why I eventually retreated from her. I let it take me away from her instead of toward her. But I also feel like I have to take this chance at saving my marriage and if she is truly just taking a break I owe it to both of us. I'm definitely not going to quit on her yet. I just really wanted to let you know I feel your pain everyday.

She's not living with me and yes it is completely possible she is having a physical affair. But we have been together for 33 years and we have never lied to each other in any of that time. I did confront her directly about the other man. She has no reason to lie to me. And he says the same thing, he is just her friend. I'm absolutely convinced that if I do exit the picture, they will end up with each other. It's too convenient not to. I do know I have to put my foot down eventually. It's hard be…

Thanks for the reply. I know she's not having a physical affair but yes I believe she is having an emotional affair even if she doesn't want to admit it. It's very complicated and the other man thinks he's just being a good friend. He's been one of my best friends for years but when my wife and I started to retreat from each other, he was always there to support her. I've also talked to him about all of this and he says he feels like somebody has to be there to support her. I've tried to reconci…

I can completely relate to the debilitating depression and anxiety and feeling like you are being chased by a wild bear. I'm 11 weeks into my separation and I've had that feeling everyday since she left. My issue is my wife says she needed to take a break from me and our marriage. She has never mentioned she wants a divorce. Since she left we have talked several times a day which is more than we had in quite some time. But she needs her time and space. I've basically put my life on hold and I'm …

yes 3. all 18 or over. our 2 sons, 18 and 23 are still living with me in our house. she and our 23yo don't get along great which is another reason she wanted to take a break. she's in a rental now with a roommate. we also have 3 dogs. they were with me for the first 5 weeks but they've been with her for the last week. And now she got a new puppy yesterday to add to the pack. I have really really mixed feelings about that.

I'm just starting my journey through this. 6 weeks separated. My world has completely changed in the last 6 weeks. I do miss some of my old life. I don't miss being the bottled up closed off jerk I was to my wife the last few years. I've buried that version of me completely and I've opened up to her quite a bit over the last 6 weeks. I do miss her terribly. I thought she was the one that I would spend the rest of my life with. We were together for 33 years. She hasn't ruled out reconciliation an…

50 here. My relationship with my wife sounds eerily similar to yours. Housemates for years, separate beds, co parent, manage the house together. She moved out 5 weeks ago. My kids are all 18 or over so the coparenting is pretty much over. I also can’t think of or imagine having a relationship with another woman. I have multiple close friends that have been divorced and are either remarried or in a serious relationship. They all tell me that I’ll eventually get to a stage where I will want a rela…

Is it always recommended to use an attorney? Is it required to use an attorney?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
