To name a few: I will not tolerate being emotionally manipulated or gaslighted. I will not be responsible for managing someone else's emotions. I will offer support, but I will not take on their emotional burdens. I will communicate my feelings and needs clearly and assertively. If they are not respected, I will re-evaluate the relationship. I need time and space to process my feelings. I will not be pressured to make decisions or have emotional conversations when I'm not ready.

This is a really important question, and I think a lot of men can relate to what you're saying. It takes a lot of courage to admit that we've been manipulated or that we've ignored red flags for too long. I think you're right, there's a tendency for men to try and "fix" things, to hope that if we just work harder, or are more understanding, things will get better.
