Honestly, it sounds like an appealable decision to me, unless there were some other statutory / criminal authority that they charged her with, thereby imposing punitive damages against her towards him. As far as division of the marital estate is concerned, it doesn't sound like the judge made a decision he's allowed to do, but CA law is fucky. Unequal distribution happens every goddamn day in every single Domestic Relations Court in the nation (assuming, US). The law requires the marital estate to be divided EQUITABLY not "equally" and takes into account a myriad of factors which render the final decision/distribution "fair."
