When I am out with the guys it is purely a lads night out. Lots of drink and a good laugh. Forcing a girl on them and putting them in an awkward position, when you are their friend and know that isn't what they are used to, is unfair. On the other hand doing what you did is going to help them eventually, you learn through failing, but don't be surprised if they stop going out with you before it gets to the point that they are comfortable with girls.
