I would love to know the word that won’t translate and what language it is if you don’t mind sharing. I love to learn words that don’t have English equivalents.

If you plan to have kids someday, right now make a list of stuff you think would be fun that would be hard to do once you have kids. For me this would include dance classes, being in community theater, learning to play an instrument and becoming fluent in Spanish. Believe me when I say that once you have kids it will be difficult to do this stuff. You simply will have much less time to pursue your own interests. However if you do decide to have kids, simply refuse to do so with a LVM. Even with …

I have diagnosed medicated generalized anxiety disorder and I loved that book. It’s not a light fun read, but it’s so useful and very empowering to have the knowledge.

This is great! When I was in HS my mom sent me to a self defense class and the first thing they taught us was you’re allowed to just scream no. Even if someone looks at you wrong. If you feel scared, firmly yell “no.”

I feel lucky I had a good judge. My kids’ dad is chronically unemployed and literally homeless at this point and I feel lucky to have sole custody. Seriously.

I’ve been in service too and I agree except there was a particular type of white women and even as a white woman myself-I felt the pain of dealing with them. But I think it was more a product of being the combination of being rich and white because in general women of all skin tones were nice to me in service. Well-off women of color didn’t do this. It was specifically the rich white women who I would tense up when I saw them walking into the shop and twice they made me cry in my car for my lunc…

I know Karen started out as a way to shame white women who mistreat POC in service industry but it really has turned into a way to shut up any woman for speaking up for herself.

Thank you! I always feel supported by women- and even though I love FDS and what it stands for, I don’t actually date anymore. All my energy goes to me and my kids and I like it. Never again will I be a mans woman.

As a single mom who does this all alone and gets no child support - SAHMs are the backbone of society. If I had a SAHM while I pursued my career, I would already be making 6 figures, easily. I had a huge opportunity at work a couple years ago and I missed my shot because my kid got sick. Daycare over the summer costs about $600 a week for me. Men who think SAHMs do nothing have clearly never had to think about being a single parent - and clearly couldn’t handle it.

Size of the baby is one thing but how fast labor goes is another. A small baby who comes very fast can cause a tear because dilation wasn’t fully complete when mom started pushing. I tore with baby 2 after a 2 hour labor - baby wasn’t huge but just came super fast and I wasn’t dilated all the way when I got urge to push. The midwife had to help me fight the urge to push rather than tell me to push.

This brought back a memory. I remember wishing I had spikes like Wolverine but all over my body so if someone touched me I could stab them. I had a bigger butt and I was grabbed in public as a preteen more than once. I forgot until just now that I wished I could be covered in spikes like a porcupine. ETA: this is anecdotal of course but every time I see aggressive driving, tailgating, weaving in and out of lanes - it’s a man driving.

I’m so sorry for women who serve and face this. I’d love to hear if female veterans think we should have a separate branch for women. I don’t know enough to say if it’s a good idea but at face value it seems like a good idea. Sorry if it’s already been said but I would also like to promote extreme caution about dating men in uniform. Yes I know they are appealing - I have only dated one man ever who was not a veteran or law enforcement officer so trust me when I say I understand the appeal and I…

You are right! I read a study the other day (sorry I didn’t save the link but it was in antipornography or porn is misogyny sub) regarding how many women in porn were abused as children - most of them. And since most abusers are never even reported, I would be surprised if many of them got any real help for what happened. These are women who have unresolved sexual trauma in most cases, and we are supposed to believe they’re making totally healthy and empowering choices for themselves.

Yes this is right! This is also why men on online dating will automatically revert to “you’re fat anyway!” If you reject them. Thank goodness I am going my own way now because I am not confident about my weight and I can honestly say some of those comments from random assholes hurt.

We can’t even pass universal background checks. US gun nuts would never allow that legislation to pass. However in the UK this does happen I believe (annual home visits). Our gun culture is weird. Any attempt by the government to acknowledge that guns are a problem is met with huge resistance.

Probably cultural. I was always taught that you should be prepared to pay your own way and you should help out as well. Example- if he takes you a weekend retreat and pays for the hotel, spa services, etc - you should buy him dinner to thank him.

Protestant Irish tends to be a bit more “smile for the guests, fight behind closed doors” than Catholic Irish, just in my personal experience. My family is Protestant Irish and Scottish and I was absolutely taught to be nice and quiet, polite to a fault. It took a years to learn to stand up for myself. My mom still won’t - we were at a restaurant once she found a long hair in her burger, it was disgusting, we both couldn’t eat after. And I had to convince her to say something about it! She didn’…

I think a gun can be protective when properly stored and when the person using it is safety trained. Part of the problem in the US is that we are horrible at storing our guns. Almost every day a kid finds a gun and shoots themselves or someone else. But as a woman with two kids in the house, I would feel comfortable having a locked up gun with ammo stored separately. I don’t feel the need though because I don’t date and I live on a military base which is guarded 24/7/365 by armed guards so I am …

THIS. I am a single mom and married women ask me “how do you do it all?” I don’t have the heart to ask them how they do it all AND put up with their husband but most of the time that’s what I want to say.

Yes! This is also why I think we need harsher punishment for sex crimes especially for child victims. Men need to know that touching a child sends them to prison for decades not something like five years with time served.

That poor girl. Even if she consented at the time, one day she will look back and see this for what it is. And it’s in the internet forever. We have to teach girls that this is not ok.

It can be helpful if you plan times together when you can multitask. Unfortunately society is set up in a way that makes socializing really difficult (I am not saying this an intentional conspiracy but it is true) because we all have such limited time. So in addition to all the advice here - think about stuff you have to do that would be more fun with a friend. Grocery shopping, laundromat, projects around the house - all good examples. This is how a lot of mom friends in my circle get together.…

Yes, that’s why being left out of after-work activities can also be part of a sexual harassment suit. It can damage your career to be excluded from these things, in some industries.

Yes. And I encourage women to check their court system for these charges. Until we have a DV registry, this is the best thing you can do. Look up his name on court websites where you know he’s lived.

It serves men. It puts women in danger. If it feels rewarding it’s only because you’ve bought into the idea that your value comes from how well you can satisfy the desires of men.

I wonder how much sexual compatibility you can determine without having sex? The best lover I’ve ever had, I knew before we had sex that he would be good because we had so many open and honest (and hot) conversations before we ever had sex about likes, dislikes, consent, etc.

It’s a good start but there’s a lot more we should teach daughters to look for, vet for and demand. I was married to my kids’ dad. He figured out after the kids were born that they are too much work for him and it took me until the second kid that I figured out I would rather do it alone than take care of a man baby as well. We had a pretty happy marriage before that because the demand on him was so low. Obviously I have to accept I made these choices and that’s on me. But I thought he would be …

Thanks! I also realized a while back that because I’m raising a boy and a girl on my own, how I act says a lot. Obviously being a single mom is still a life of service and I sacrifice plenty for them. I don’t have to also treat them like they’re babies into their childhoods and adolescences.

I did floral for 2 years. I hear you. It was never a fun day and you would see the nastiness of men. I did this job right out of highs school and I studied under a florist who is extremely talented/skilled. The amount of disrespect these women endure just to make sure other women get their flowers is insane. I had a homecoming dad make me cry once because he was so incredibly cruel to me because his son forgot to order a corsage and we were booked up.

I wonder how much porn plays into this as well. Gymnasts, like cheerleaders, have often been horrifyingly over sexualized. It can’t be about the sport if all men see is a bendy fuck doll. She is amazing and I’m so sorry she has to deal with this.

Actually they have a point. Because the best thing to do when you notice a problem is to ignore it. The best thing to do is look the other way and trust the men to stop raping. I think if we really cared, this is what we’d do. /s

In my case, he knew I wanted a baby. Faking interest in that was a good way to keep me compliant. My focus was completely sucked into having a baby, then on being pregnant, then on giving birth and having the baby to care for. And the expectation for him was so low Through most of that. All he had to do was chit chat about the dreams for the baby until the baby was actually with us and then if became clear he wasn’t really interested. It is clear to me now, but at the time it was really not.

Not to mention how the attempts might go down if they all know we might be wearing this. Imagine if every high school girl got one issued to her and insurance covers a new one every year. Rape would go down because these men love their weiners so much they’d be scared.

My ex requested a month off work to “help” me. He played video games in the garage the entire time and criticized me when he did come inside for what I was doing or not doing. If there were dishes in the sink he asked me why. While I had a baby attached to my boob. To the people at work be probably looked insanely dedicated to parenting to take a whole month.
