Well said. Nothing convinced me more of how broadly different men and women's lives are than trying to follow women's advice and getting nothing but cringey memories lol.

Exactly, people viscerally dislike hearing this from men, so they'll reject you and keep you away as if you're a sick member of the herd.

Absolutely. The different ways people respond to either sex trying to kill themselves quickly shows men just how disposable to people they really are. Regardless of what people like to say or which opinions get internet upvotes, people tend to act like men are scary and disposable, and women are valuable and wanted. Men who reach out for help are usually shut out, even by people who say they want to help others.

Absolutely. I learned as a young boy through both many subtle interactions and a few mildly traumatic direct ones that people, including motherly grown women, really don't respond well to kinds of emotions in young boys that media hasn't prepared them for. You very quickly learn not to bring up certain things and that most adults don't actually have your back when it matters.

I remember this during the 2016 election. That was explicitly a campaign talking point from Hillary Clinton's camp, disseminated through her surrogates in the media. She did the same thing in 2008 against Obama.

Honestly, so much of Reddit is covered by this comment. Including almost all of the gendered "ask" subreddits

I'd say around half are legit. This list should definitely be compressed, the bad arguments there don't do any of us any favors.

Most people like women, most people don't like men, and most people are okay with that generalization, unfortunately

I bet you help out a lot of vulnerable people. Thank you.

Of course there's no excuse for talking badly about someone behind their back, at least in that context. Personally I've never had that experience with guys but I believe your experience. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be a gendered behavior. But I'm not sure what you mean by "have a use for" in the context of friendship or romantic relationships, since all relationships are conditional in some way. Courtesy and respect should always be given but otherwise it seems like you might be expectin…

And most importantly, there's no prominent voices calling it out like people call out the manosphere

Exactly. Very few people will choose escapism when real life is good and they have an available path to real happiness. It's why it's called "escapism" in the first place. And I think almost anyone who been into really into those things for a long time will tell you that they would prefer real life lol

Yep. Therapy isn't accessible for me, it's both expensive and on a long wait list. I tried the free trial of Betterhelp, the format doesn't feel good to me at all. I get better luck occasionally getting legit advice or connection on Reddit, and that's not a compliment to Reddit lol. And yeah, the structure of most therapy is structured more for how women generally tend to communicate. There's definitely value in having sit down, face to face conversations, but it isn't how most guys are comforta…

Good post. As an extension of point two, mainly, a lot of women (at least online) talk about how they feel betrayed or some other harsh emotion when a male friend asks them out on a date or (politely) tries to escalate their relationship. While also saying that men who want intimacy should find it with their plantonic friends or pets. Obviously everyone is an individual and people can like different things, but it reeks of entitlement to me for a woman to take the friendship of a man for granted…

I agree with most of your comment, but idk where the first paragraph came from. I didn't get that time from OP at all

True. People react viscerally negatively to men who are caught up in their emotions. Depending on the circumstance and how she expresses it, women can also get backlash, but nothing at all like the instinctive rejection that guys get. People, men and women alike, simply don't care about men's feelings. Everyone wants men to shut up and work.

Same. I was fundamentally disliked from an early age and that was only reinforced as I became an adult and also throughout my early 20's. I was too awkward, or made people uncomfortable at key moments, or was just left behind by others who were more wanted than myself. Now I don't even know how to talk about my feelings or opinions. Like there's an impassable void between what I say and think, and what I really think or want deep down.

I agree. Like so much on Reddit and other social media, so much of it seems artificial and bot driven.

Yep, I'm completely different on Reddit than I am irl, but still deal with people's inherent distrust of lonely guys

Men and women alike on those age specific gendered subs tend to be bitter and perpetuate their own crab buckets, in my experience. That particular immaturity isn't gendered in my experience

Even on subreddits ostensibly meant to help men, when someone asks for help or says their life is bad, if it's a guy, so so many people will get to the top of threads with empty platitudes that put the onus on OP to accept their terrible life while being browbeaten by commenters who assume he isn't a paragon of whatever self improvement they decide he needs to do. It's asinine.

Very well written. I see this phenomenon all the time on Reddit and other social media. I assume it's mostly younger and immature women forming an echo chamber, like many guys do, but it sucks when it shuts down other discussion. I hope this post gets more attention.

Yeah, life has always been isolating, and it's getting even more so. Economic pressure gets everyone, but men often have increased barriers to socializing, people just don't want men around the same way they want women around. Life is lonely, it sucks. It sucks even more seeing better (luckier) people than me have a flourishing social life, and life in general, when they at best tried only as hard as me, often they didn't try much at all. Contrary to all the online complaining, most women I know…

I remember how refreshing this sub was to find, after getting frustrated there with the self-hating users (assuming they were men) and pretentious mods. It would suck for concern trolls to slowly turn this sub into menslib

As long as the democratic and Republican parties are bought and paid for by the same donors, nothing will fundamentally change. That's why the Democrats are fine with losing, and why the party learned absolutely nothing between 2016 and 2024.

That "man or bear" question really poisoned the mainstream discourse and is probably a significant reason why gen z and alpha are so politically divided

I've always thought the same. With a limitless forum like Reddit, there's literally no way to actually derail conversation

I agree. I used to feel more charitable and optimistic, but there are subreddits that make a point of saying they want to help vulnerable guys but in practice just bully and insult them even more, with a thin veil of therapy speak draped over it for plausible deniability.
