My husband’s mother is the same way and I finally lost my cool with her a couple years ago. He cried because no one had ever fought for him, just with him. I’m not saying to launch into full assault mode, but it’s okay to very firmly let her know that this will not be continuing past this point and then cutting her out when she pushes back, even if temporarily for his comfort.

What are you bringing to the relationship outside of a laundry list of his perceived shortcomings? If he’s told you that he needs secure income prior to asking you to marry him, that’s your answer. This post comes across as highly insecure and childish. If you feel you’re wasting time, move on, but you could use some work on yourself to be certain you’re worth a stable mate.

The fact that men have to pay anything is INSANE. I say this as a divorced woman. Back story: he cheated multiple times and I stayed because I knew he grew up with no father and his mother abused him and he was working through counseling at the time. I worked full time, took exceptional care of him, but he had a void that couldn’t be filled with what most would consider a normal, happy, highly sexual relationship.
