Deck officers usually make charts, watch the radar and the environment, do all kinds of paperwork, make sure low-level people do their job and correctly.. When in port they're tasked with loading/unloading cargo. Engine officers make sure all machinery is running well and smooth. Sometimes they do maintenance, emergency repairs, replace parts, order new parts and all that fuzz. Both have this thing called watchkeeping. You just watch and make sure nothing funny happens. That lasts 4 hours. You w…

Sounds like a dream. But also depends on ship's size if we're talking passenger liners.

You need a degree in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering. You can try and be a medic but I dunno if your education will help you.

A few guys started in their 29/30s. If you lift and are healthy then maybe you can work 10 years tops. In the engine department. If you want to work in the bridge then I guess it's not late yet.

Depends on regulations in your country. Navigators have 12 months of apprenticeship in total, engineers have less but that's Estonian. 8 semesters. In total it's five years. If they find that you have at least one failed course then you're out. Doesn't matter if you are very close to graduating.

About to finish 2nd year at a maritime academy. It's a lot of work unfortunately and you are not allowed to skip any class unless you have legal excuse. There are 8 courses per semester and each is packed with lots of material and examinations. It's stressful and will break your frame whether you like it or not. You will rebuild yourself once you start practicing time management. An essential skill for self-improvement. Lots of people drop out and it's unfortunate. 4 years of theory, 1 year of a…

He has a point though. Best defense is straight offensive because the opponent wont have any idea what hit him. The opponent will start raising his voice to get people's attention as well as try to intimidate you so you wont retailiate. That gives you more than enough time to knock him out. Whether you escalate the fight or not is up to you then because you will have dominated a dangerous situation. If the security orders you to leave then hey, at least you will be still in one piece. Health > e…

I quit smoking by replacing cigarettes with electronic cigarettes. All I needed was to spend 70 bucks on a kit and a few bucks on a liquid, which had 12mg of nicotine per ml in it. It helps, a lot. Sometimes I do get cravings for a normal cigarette but nicotine does the job well done. Nicotine is still unhealthy, so its intake should be reduced, like periodically. Trying to quit cold turkey you will start hamstering yourself for occasional smoking and you wont even notice until you satisfy the c…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
