I agree with your overall point, but wanted to say that your comparison might need a bit more clarification. The UK has about 67 million population compared to about 330 million in the US. So that killed by knife number is actually a higher statistical population. Someone could twist that to read: “in a country with about a fifth the population of the US, there have been just as many deaths in the same time period.” The bigger point in my opinion is that mass shootings shootings are a sliver of …

Well said. Sorry you're being down-voted.

Shout out for a very meaningful post OP. It's really easy to get bogged down in sub-reddits that make the world seem all one way or the other. I love this sub for the same reasons I have to quit it every once in awhile. I hope you're able to do exactly what you wrote about with your kids!

No...the montage shows that she’s always been told she couldn’t do it and pushed through. I feel like that was just meant to show her drive. Her real motivation in the least spoiler way possible is that she was stolen from her planet, had her brain wiped and life removed and then was used as a weapon in a war she was never on board with.

I sort of agree. But I feel like Marvel has just done this with a lot of their characters lately. Black panther is literally royalty who ate a fancy plant and comes from an advanced civilization. Ant man is just a dude with a good heart who is given the suit and powers. Outside the main titles cast you have people like vision and Scarlett witch who are just god like powerful because mind stone.

Exactly. That means the very first thing a woman does is rape her mother too. So their argument is that everyone is a rapist?

Ok - totally different argument. Let’s entertain it - if you were 100% right, why would that make female troops any different than male troops?

This is definitely this sub gone too far. They’re people who are literally volunteering to serve this country. Do they all do profound and meaningful work? No. But why generalize negatively about our armed forces? What does that accomplish?

Yeah this seems like the friend may not have much balance in his life. You can keep your house in order chore-wise, be a good father to your kids and still budget some time for yourself in there. Not saying it’s easy, but it is doable.

possibly "lecture and heckle"?

Agreed - and I think the author of the comment in the post would as well. I'd like to assume most people would have the decency to support their friends in a situation like that, but also be open minded enough not to condemn someone without more evidence.

Nothing wrong with honesty - I don't mind him saying how he really feels about this guy. Like you though, I do wonder why he'd enjoy hanging out with someone he honestly sees as uninteresting.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
