It's not clear to me that you read the Vox article, as it points out that the initial study was flawed, but three or for other larger surveys also suggest that 1 in 5 is not far off. If multiple studies put 1 in 5 in the ball-park correct range, and a single study puts the number in the 1 in 40 range, then either the latter is in error or else there is a good reason why there is such a huge difference.

But this doesn't explain why two studies over roughly the same time period yields results that differ by an order of magnitude.
