I’ve never seen a prohibition on multiple wives in the Bible 1 Timothy 3:2, 1 Timothy 3:12, and Titus 1:6 set the standard for church leaders at a single wife. Since this is clearly the higher standard, it is what we should all obey. 1 Corinthians 7:2 says that each man should be faithful to his own wife (singular) God specifically told Abraham that his wife Sarah would bear a son. Abraham's distrust of God in trying to fulfill the promise through Hagar is clearly depicted as wrong and sinful.

While there isn't an explicit condemnation in the Bible, there are some pretty clear implicit recommendations against it. The idea of fatherhood came about because children with significant paternal investment are better able to outcompete their peers than those who don't. Look at statistics from children (esp. boys) raised by single-mothers. No matter how many variables you control for the effect is still significant (including controlling for a second income i.e. stepfather). Fatherhood emerged and became commonplace because it makes your children more effective, not because a sky fairy told you too.

Yes and no. On the one hand AWALT, on the other hand, women are inherently social creatures and social disapproval means more to them than it does to men. Marrying/dating a Christian woman allows you to put her in an environment that will disapprove of the worst of her impulses which will help keep them in check. For example, if her church friends all tell her that it would be a grave sin to divorce you without just cause (read: infidelity) then she will at least think twice about it.
