I totally agree . Early 50s here. Hearing advice like wait 3 years is not compatible with how I view life. We don’t have that much good years left before the harder parts of aging hit . I don’t like arbitrary numbers of wait X number of years,

I’d ask how many guys have you asked that have told you they’ve never been cheated and or have great sex lines? Bc I think the reality is there are probably at least 1/3 of dudes who are getting cheated on or more probably don’t have good sex lines Why do I think this ? Because otherwise the divorce rate would be 2%. Not 50 percent or more You and I and everyone here are not the outliers. We’re just the ones that are out there with the divorce official.

Hey I felt the same way. Moved out last fall. After a bad first couple days I settled in and felt better . Truth was I was a bit overconfident and had to accept reality . Then the day that I actually found out the divorce was real… it felt scary. With freedom came responsibility and the realization that yes I am now in charge of myself completely.

Don’t worry about your looks . You’re working on yourself and she’s clearly into you . Otherwise she wouldn’t be chatting and wanting to meet up

Thanks. I needed this . I’m way early but I get impatient . When I have good moments l get overconfident when I have bad moments like this past week, I feel crushed. I have some good friends and a therapist and they’re good to talk with . But they can only spend so much time with me. At the end of the day, it’s just me and me alone. My kids are not there to help me - I have to help them. It’s not their job to fix dads problems You nailed it when you said nobody is coming to save you. Because tha…

It’s like in the circus where the elephant grows up tethered to a post. Eventually the circus master removes the tether yet the elephant is conditioned to stay right where he is . I know I am trying to fight this . Hope I get there

Oh yes .. the old feeling of having to tell her your every move . I so want to move past that but it’s like I’m conditioned to still be there even though the leash is gone.

I see . Yeah your strategy would probably give him the full truth . It would be a curb stomp to him though . He’s already been gut punched

No I disagree with this. I think this comes across into the territory of begging or even an ultimatum. I think the wife is done. She has sent pics (what kind of pics? ) to a male neighbor . She is clearly upping her appearance for her new life. She doesn’t want sex with OP and the invitation to be in bed one night is either platonic for the kids sake , or one time sex which I personally think will just emotionally wreck OP Actions speak louder than words.

Yeah … I can actually at an onion without fear of her complaining about me eating an onion. But we weren’t even having sex the last few years so why did she even care I ate an onion? I don’t even like onions that much , and I get that when I hopefully date/meet someone again I certainly wouldn’t have onion breath if I wanted to get physical…. It’s hard for me to get used to the freedoms ..

How did your parents lives go after divorce ? Did both do better ? Or only one do okay ? That part about holding your sister at the top of the stairs crying made me hurt for you . I know a big part of why I split with my wife was because I didn’t want my kids to only see two parents who will mostly didn’t argue , were clearly not in love anymore .

I’m lonely too. Everyone here probably is except for the ones that have made their goals and are here just to help. All our situations are different . The reasons for the break up, age, culture, kids /no kids , how much money we have But we’re all lonely . Even the ones that have girlfriends or friends with benefits probably are lonely to some degree . So you’re not alone . You’re right about doing something social which is nice then when it over the loneliness rushes back in like a waterfall . …

I’m glad you mention reducing time with superficial friends. Life is too short to spend on ppl who we can’t connect with at a meaningful level

I hope 2.0 is working out better than 1.0 …. And yes I see her new man fell for the old “I can fix it” trap

That sounds exhausting . Did you ever find anyone worth it after all the weeding?

I really think therapy isn’t there to “work” I mean it can for some that have more minor issues like oh he works a little too late if he just came home and listened to me a little bit more that we’d spend more time. That’s easy. I really think a lot of times spend the time a couple makes it to therapy. It’s just way too late or you’re just way too incompatible. At that point therapy is just there to help you realize what decision you want to make

You answered your own question. You checked out years ago . But don’t have an affair .

How exactly do they know this ? I mean outside of dating platforms and work/friends of friends etc .. it’s not like we wear T shirts that proclaim us divorced .

Hope you find that someone . Between this and a couple other sub reddits there are women who want to find introverted men. The problem is that they are guys like you and me who are just hiding in plain sight . Definitely like how you made the decision to end it with bipolar woman . I know many men, my self included who would fall hard for the first woman to offer us a glass of water after being in a desert

She sounds like a good person just she unfortunately doesn’t see you as the person she spends the rest her life with . Unfortunately you can only control your actions and thoughts not hers . To me while it hurts you are better off splitting now and not later when she gets truly tired of the relationship and then resentful. Trust me on this and the divorce forum you can read plenty of examples of what happens when people stay together too long . Heck I’m one of them I’d start by taking walks regu…

Man … if you’re having these problems now they will only get much much worse once you are locked in with marriage .

That’s tough . It’s also incredibly telling of who you are as a man .. to let that anger go and recognize her for who she is/was.. a lot of guys can’t . I hope you’re boys will be able to manage through this

I know every situation has it nuances but my concern in your situation is you have to put the kids first and by selling the home that is going to cause massive anxiety for them. Going through this I feel the kids need that safe place to go home to every night and having their own bedroom is literally their safe place Do you have any options to keep the house ?

Wait why put single dad but not divorced ? Wouldn’t the woman figure it out fast ?

The loneliness is what I think a lot about in those moments when life is quiet. When I leave the kids . When I’ve come home from work . When I’ve already talked to a friend or done texting for the night . You’re right it’s damn hard and it feels oppressive . That’s when I force myself to do something . Get up , move , chores , hobby etc. I don’t like saying “I’m fine” when people I know ask me how I feel. Thats being dishonest . I will tell them how I feel without trauma dumping or sounding need…

Oh and as far as flirting with that woman I wouldn’t worry about it . Act cool and try and be normal . I’m sure she’s used to guys doing that

Support here. No sorry . We are all tired of ppl telling us sorry or giving sorry right ? Halloween I always found to be a very hard holiday as a parent Stressful cause the kids are amped up and just want to binge on candy . Trying to get them to bed on time . Then as you posted … as a single man it feels empty and you miss the chaos . I missed walking the streets with my wife in the evening . This year I did Halloween as a single dad with 2 other couples and their kids . These were great ppl ..…

It is therapeutic lol. I think OP would benefit from counseling . I know I do . But even an hour a week isn’t enough in the dark stages (I’m in them right now). Hence massive walls of text on this and other Divorce subreddits

I think there are women that can just sense when a man is hurt and vulnerable like when we are going through the split . When they start talking to us our vulnerability is a spark towards emotional intimacy . Problem is it always, over and over , the stories involve a woman who is actually unavailable

Her figuring her life out shouldn’t involve you being some tool or transition point . I posted a reply separately how our situations are similar . Tell yourself there are other women out there with great personalities and are actually available when you’re in a better state.

Feel for you . I’m in some ways similar . I’m actually pending divorce but upon hearing that it’s happening a good friend of mine (married w/ kids) escalated her attention and emotions with me . Nothing physical other than her initiating light touches . Being lonely, sexless and vulnerable, I, like you went into a complete bender of fantasies of what it would be like to have her at my side . Didn’t help that I’ve had a secret crush on her for years and we’ve always clicked Pretty sure my friend …

This was an amazing analogy . I think I’ve been so unhappy for years I’ve been death gripping to my failing marriage for years out of fear . The advice of holding on just enough but letting everything else go seems to be the message

I’ve never posted on this sub but my move out date is next week … and I’m scared too. But also hopeful for a new future Unlike others my divorce is playing amicably . My kids and STBXW are going to help me move in and we will eat as a family After they leave … well that’s the interesting part . I’ve told myself I’ll plan to call a guy friend of mine I helped when he was divorced; he told me to call but his life is good now and he’s got a serious GF and busy . So if he’s busy then I’ll probably j…

Wouldn’t that seriously cramp one style if they try to have a woman over let alone friends ? It’s one thing if you have a narco style compound and literally need the help . But I’m guessing OP isn’t

Maybe an alternate way to look at it is to be grateful you got to this point and that despite it not working out the way you wanted you still gave her a good time and she seems to still like you . Then the next time will be better I’m farther behind in my journey than you having just filed for divorce after 20 yrs and 3+ yrs deadbedroom. I would love to be able to tell myself I’ll be in a bed with a woman again It takes courage to share what you did even on Reddit . Stay strong brother
