'I felt like collateral damage, my moment of justice mutilated.' It's amazingly hard to take a person seriously who would call participating in this expedition a "moment of justice." Leaving aside the question of whether the mission was itself worth doing... we'll just assume it was worthy, and that this woman was in fact taking advantage of her participation to perform legitimate scientific research in space… that still makes thinking of it as a 'moment of justice' incoherent. Science is about …

I'm a huge fan of the new space industry... it will change our world and in a wonderful way... I just try to look away when unseemly things like this happen... I mean, at least it's funneling money into a productive high-tech industry that would otherwise have been wasted on... whatever Kate Perry spends her millions on normally.

It feels almost like Copernikus telling the church about heliocentrism, that the sun is the center of our galaxy and not the earth. The sun is not the center of the galaxy… The Sun is the center of our Solar System. If you are trying to make a case about being educated, you need rigorous about having ALL of your own facts correct or opponents will eat you for lunch. Regardless, modern feminists are ideologically motivated, so much like happened with early figures in science and various religous …

As individual lifestyle choices 4B and MGTOW are no worse than many and better than some… but as protests to influence the behavior of others they will always fail. Other people simply don't care that much how you live your life and who you do or do not have relationships with. Imagining otherwise is narcisim. In the long run, almost everyone learns their social values, like they learn their language, from their PARENTS. Actively anti-natal philosophies always fail. Don't believe me? Ask a Shake…

Eventually body cameras will be so small, cheap, and have enough battery life, storage, and connectivity that this will make sense. They will be small to the point of being unnoticable and will continuously record in all directions with 4k overlapping fields of view and with audio and archive the resulting data off-sight in semi-real-time in a block-chain distributed authentification system. Feeds archived this way will be auto tagged with location, time-date, and identity of everyone who was ne…

The solution to this is a stand-alone local instance of something like ChatGPT. (This is super easy look up Ollama. If you can install Candy Crush, then you can get Ollama running). Lets contemplate why this is really the answer on several different levels: How does running locally, as opposed to a web app, solve tge immediate problem? There are uncensored versions of the models. You can run those hacked versions. But bypassing the restrictions doesn't make the attitudes that caused them to go a…

Ah yes, speaking colloquially on the internet rather than speaking as if I’m an academic source is indeed a crime. Sigh. You are not speaking. You are writing. Standards are different EVEN if it is colloquially on the internet. You are right you did not correct me. You diminished and attacked my character instead. I was in fact careful to NOT do that. u/uknowuknow I'm not trying to be a grammar police officer… there's no point in policing other people's grammar. You'll note I didn't try to correct any of your errors. Rather, the point of my reply was to highlight, mostly for the education of other redditers, but also for yourself, how NOT to make successful points in writing. The core of almost all of the errors in your post is that you are constantly skipping words and ABBREVIATING your sentences. (You also use acronyms to often, but that's …

It's very hard to take this post seriously it is so badly written. Almost every sentence has at least one grammatical error. The composition as a whole is chaotic without introduction. Finally, much of the advice is bad, or at least only valuable and valid for a very specific and rare sort of reader.

Look, the first rule of dating is "Don't Date Crazy!" It doesn't matter how hot the crazy is… He or she is not hot enough to make putting up with the crazy worth it! Not all self identified feminists are crazy. For one thing when you are dealing with self identification you have to acknowledge that words like "feminist" have different meanings for different people. But someone who emphasizes this as a core component of her identity??? Yeah, she's almost certainly wacko. The fact that feminism is…

Shrug… they need a Mocking Jay... totally predictable and similar tactics, targeting young Russian men are used by Putin's recruitment efforts. War has always been about trading the lives of young men for territory and power. Images of nubile women inspire young men. Not to blame the victim here, but we should be arming young men with enough knowledge of themselves, their motivations, and the way those motivations have historically been manipulated, that these techniques stop working. I can, qui…

If men have "privilege" at all, it is privilege that they built for themselves… not something that they took from or gained at the expense of women. Imagine a farmer who works the land and thus has plentiful food. Feminist would say the farmer's state of not starving was 'food privilege' or some such thing, and then suggest that the farmer has effectively exploiting all of the food-under-privleged people. When it is pointed out that the farmer's food came from the farmer's work, they respond tha…

Bringing in a new CEO for a distressed company is a losing move to begin with… It is in effect the Board saying to Share Holders: "We have no effing clue what lead us into dire circumstances… if we did, we'd just direct the existing CEO to fix it in the first place… we don't so we're just bringing in a rando who's run other companies in the hope that a fresh eye will find something we can't." It's not surprising when a strategy like that doesn't work… the surprise is that it ever does.

I don't know if you are aware, but you have very nearly re-discovered Jerry Pournelle's Iron Law of Bureaucracy. Pournelle's Iron Law of Bureaucracy states that in any bureaucratic organization there will be two kinds of people: First, there will be those who are devoted to the goals of the organization. Examples are dedicated classroom teachers in an educational bureaucracy, many of the engineers and launch technicians and scientists at NASA, even some agricultural scientists and advisors in th…

First, full disclosure, I am a 49M married happily for 12 years now. This may be cold comfort, I know, but women who label you as an "incel" or listen to such labels are really labeling themselves as 'shallow', 'superficial', 'spoiled', 'high maintenance' and 'hurtful'. You want absolutely positively NOTHING to do with them! You don't want a date with one of them, a one-night stand with one of them, you don't want a relationship with one of them, and you certainly don't want marriage or kids wit…

First women are only half of society by the numbers at birth so you would think that toxic femininity would never be sufficient justification or explanation for men opting out of ALL society. However, to a signifigant degree it is. It is worth the time to deconstruct WHY that is the case. From the article, my emphasis added: In the entire dataset, 29% of men said they never approached a woman in person before. I hate to say this, and take this with a grain of salt, since this is advice from a random stranger on the internet who knows nothing about your situation except the approximately 100 word description that you posted, but your best long term solution is to get OUT of that situation. Functionally, that means getting out of your parent's house. What such women don't understand is that using a movie about a doll as litmus test for men is actually a litmus test applied to women. The lady thinks this is a worthy litmus test? Don't walk away... Run. She's crazy, or has skrewed up values, or both. Regardless, you want nothing to do with her.

A social network devoted to doing this would make the creators/owners extremely legally vulnerable, no matter where it was hosted. Only if you can pin it to them... Men are sexually objectified by women mostly in IMITATION of how men do it to them. REAL objectification of men with REAL harm is to be found in Disposability. Men are disposable utility-objects to women, whereas women get objectified as luxury object… of intrinsic value. This is why 90+% of work-place deaths are male; why the draft targets males; why males are traditionally expected to give up seats in life-boats to females. So focusing upon sexual objectification of men as an issue misses the …

More importantly… Who CARES what makes a "real man"? "Real Man", is just words… they are a symbol with meaning that is not enforced by anyone or via any mechanism. The words, thus, have only the power over you that you choose to give them. Symbols are useful tools, but make poor masters.

To THEM being a 'real man' means being some one who is a useful TOOL for THEM. The old joke goes: Long ago, if a cave-man wanted to kill a bear, the tool he would use would be a spear. If a cave-woman wanted to kill a bear, the tool she would use would be a cave-man. This matters particularly to you because, an important aspect of a tool is that it can be used to the breaking point, discarded, and then replaced. If that spear in the joke was broken in killing the bear… no big deal, the cave-man …

Society has believed this for a long time. The opening line of Pride and Prejudice is: “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”

That's the whole point of men's rights That's why framing it in terms of men's RIGHTS is a bad way to go. Rights are granted... to have a right is to be subject to the granting authority. Men don't need to be more subjected to authority. We should be talking about such measures in terms of liberties... liberties are taken... all the difference in the world.

I understand why you think that. But you are wrong. You see a stalemate is only possible when you are in a competition defined by your opponent. Real victory is only to be had in ignoring other players and setting you own victory conditions. That erases the distinction between something like a stalemate and a checkmate. Instead there is only Success (did you meet YOUR goals?) or Failure. Too many men get tied up in pointless competition with one another... desperately trying to be the best sheep…

I firmly disagree. The laws follow attitudes, not the other way round.
/r/MensRights28/11/22 05:03 PM

So you're saying we don't need to worry about laws being unfair or biased, we can just find a fix for each problem that causes? That's treating the symptoms, not the disease. No it's moving the field of battle to terrain where victory is possible.
/r/MensRights28/11/22 05:02 PM

A law is very important and if you change the law it will work. Just like laws for women's rights work What makes you think that? Just because the law works for women does not mean it will work for men. This is something we KNOW… not think… know. Look at women sentenced for identical crimes to men… even if there's nothing gendered about the crime women get off easier.
/r/MensRights28/11/22 04:42 PM

My post is still correct. Don’t play, then. The problem with your post is the words "until the laws change"… imagine the law is changed to allow a financial abortion… so what? Women will find ways to break the law or side step it and the society will let them get away with it the way it does now. If you are not going to change the attitudes of a super majority of the whole society (a task verging on the impossible, and certainly slow on the decades or centuries time scales) then changing the law…

you didn't offer an alternative in either post. I did... Hard technology (that is tech which does not involve behavioral, social, or attitude changes). A male birth control pill for example would simply remove opportunity for females to interfere or sabotage the intervention.
/r/MensRights28/11/22 04:33 PM
1

Did you not read what I wrote? Changing the law WON'T WORK! The laws are just ink on a page… it's people who make them more… You'd have to change the attitudes of millions of people FIRST. Optimistically, that is the work of a century. So, no. Your wait till the situation changes "solution" is just code for "surrender".

Changing the law is nice, but law is a social intervention... people whose behavior it is meant to regulate need to take it seriously, other people need to enforce it when it is broken, still more people need to provide the oversight to ensure the enforcers are doing their job and fairly. Social technologies like laws, customs, institutions, etc are generally weak tea. After all, we already have plenty of non-gendered laws that are unequally enforced at the levels?of both police and courts. Soci…

Men will never defend men as a group. If you're going to play this game the way women would play it, then yeah… duh… you'll lose. It seems like sound reasoning, but I am always a bit skeptical of evolutionary psychology. Too much of evolution depends upon the subtle details of the shape of selective pressures, and we really just don't have that detailed knowledge of how our hunter-gatherer ancestors lived to reason from. I think that Disposability is internalized in the Male Suicide Problem in a number of ways. The classic description of the male suicide problem (the fact that 3-4 times as many deaths by suicide are males compared to females) is: (1) Suicide is a call for help. (2) Males and females attempt suicide at approximately the same rate, but that males tend to choose more immediately deadly methods (guns) than females (pills, carbon monoxide, slit wrists, etc). (3) The reason for the difference is a res…

You can't expect to make money while being at home. Unfortunately you can... EXPECTATIONS are not intrinsically anchored in reality nor intrinsically fair. They are the archetypal example of "subjective". In truth, I think that this is an awful lot of Feminist's problem: unreasonable expectations.

Some people act out, not because they are trying to achieve anything, but because they need to vent and feel heard. There are guys like this too. In general, the strategically right move in such cases is to not engage. Logic, appeals to facts, or presenting a mirror of the complainers behavior back to the complainer just provide a target for more escalated complaining. You might confront her when she's NOT angry, depending upon a lot of tactical details: How old are you? Do you still live with h…

And most leftist/feminists don't even see this fact as an indictment. In their minds, if most men actually EARN their wealth, that's just proof that the system is stacked against women such that opportunities to earn come to men, and alimony thus just represents successful wealth redistribution correcting the situation.

It's interesting that she says she understands that "rights are not given", but then goes on to say that means she has to be loud and speak out to demand that they not be taken away. Her making demand and speaking out can never ever achieve anything but cause her to receive what others choose to GIVE her. Demands are just forcefully worded requests. If men aren't afraid of their rights being removed it's because they are not "rights" at all… They are Liberties. Liberties are TAKEN, not granted. …

Always have a male witness." It's funny… The rise of feminism has lead to a return of Victorian-like must have a chaperone rules… this time to protect men's rep…

Well, regarding the wars via female rulers. I think that could potentially be explained by the fact that in order to hang on to power in largely patriarchal societies, the women who were able to attain/stay in power had to act even more extreme than a man to be taken seriously. This is not a function of "largely patriarchal societies"... The way to get and stay in power is the same across all governments and societies as this excellent video explains.

Finally, it was painful for me as a feminist to write this commentary. I have done so for two reasons. First, I am also a scientist and, for this issue, my scientific commitments override my feminist commitments. I am also a scientist (Synthetic Biology, Microbiology, & Biosecurity), and for this comment alone, I admire and honor Dr. Murray Straus. If there were a Hippocratic oath for scientists it would include the words "Above all else, speak only Truth." That's what Science is, or at least wh…

Well, exactly. The social forms of the Victorians existed for a reason: to protect women, and women's reputations so as to allow them to marry. That marriage in turn was a mostly financial arrangement. Now, we'll see very similar forms evolve, but to protect men and men's reputations.

Think about your comment for a second, it reveals an interesting fact about social change, namely that reactionary forces are stronger than the actions that spawned them: Imagine some ultra-right-wing group that was morally opposed to premarital sex. Naturally the promiscuousness of college life would be a target for that group to change. Now, if they tried to change that promiscuous college culture directly, they would fail. People have been trying to impose cultural and legal controls on sex f…

I kind of like plays on the word "Equal": Equalist, Equalitarian, Equator. But a part of me suggests not making up a word at all if that's the direction one wants to go and just use the clasical Egalitarian. It's tempting to use a play on the latin word for equality: "parilis"... perhaps Parilian, or Parilite. This has the advantage of not sounding like anything people already have associations with.

Concordantly, if he had meant that there was more to such ethical conundrums than the ends not justifying the means he might have said that as well.

Spending for an airforce base in Maryland benefits Marylanders more than Californians. Similarly, some communities grow and others shrink as a result of the highway system's layout. It is actually almost perfectly impossible to create a government program that equaly benefits all citizens. The point being, that we accept these inequalities of benefit.

The common thread in all of this is: "the ends justify the means." Surely you are not saying that the ends can NEVER justify the means? That seems to be just as unreasonable if taken to the extreme: For example, not all citizens benefit equally from government spending (such as on defense, roads, police, courts, schools, fire departments, etc... To say nothing of social programs). That unequal benefit is an injustice intrinsic to the means which is government spending and the taxation and public…

This detail is valuable because puts those who support this study into a rhetorical catch-22... If those who want to use the results of this study believe the study, then they have to believe all of it... if THEY don't except made-to-penetrate as rape, then THEY are now put on the defensive of defending the study's definition of rape... which as you point out is indefensible... either way, their own arguments defeat them.

You don't necessarily even need to consent. A woman can rape a man, and still successfully sue for child support in most jurisdictions... this is because the courts do what is best for the CHILD.

Could you give an example of some of the neo-fascist ideas you percieve in the MRM? I would not have characterized them that way myself. To be sure some of them have very chauvenistic attitudes about gender roles... but facism that does not make.

perceive myself continuously not true! what you actually perceive are "future" states in which you have memories of "previous" states. (future and previous being temporal directions, and not an objective classification of ontological time slices) Temporal directions, like all directions, such as futureward and pastward require a perspective to have meaning. (For example, Eastward does not exist except relative to the surface of an astronomical body, typically the Earth; Upward does not exist exc…

Relativism is inapplicable in most things, but there is a very useful and important domain of philosophy where it is useful: Killing dead, and ending conversations about the non-existence of ourselves or our free will. I directly and unambiguously perceive myself continuously during every single conscious moment. I directly and unambiguously perceive my free will continuously during every single conscious moment. These are NOT objective perceptions... all others do not share them, nor even do I …

Commerce clause... by rendering imaginary guns prohibited, schools are distorting the market for toys that resemble guns (squirt guns and the like). There really is no amount of stupidity so large that the commerce clause can't cover it.

I don't think I could make an identical statement about the Mens Rights Movement... not for any moral or ethical reason differentiating the MRMs from Feminism, but simply because the Mens Rights Movement is so SMALL and Unknown. The honest truth is that most people have never heard of it... As a result, nothing about its reputation is "irretrievable". Feminism on the other hand... I doubt there's even a single person in the western world that has not heard of it, and already formed difficult to …

I don't think male sexuality is bad. Then you should consider not identifying as a "feminist" anymore. The movement and the term have been irretrievably tarnished. The fact that it is only a vocal minority that have been responsible for the blackened reputation of the whole doesn't change that.

I protest your use of "unavoidable." OK.... We reflexively perform pattern recognition, yes. ...Yes, that's what I meant by unavoidable... But that doesn't mean the patterns that we think we recognize are actually there, ...yes, we are not infallible, but that doesn't mean that we can avoid recognizing and acting on patterns in the behaviors of others or ourselves... it doesn't mean we recognize the reason for those patterns ...yes, we do not posses perfect insight, but that ALSO does not mean t…

This is largely unimportant now I'm not sure that it is as unimportant now. To be sure, the physical difference in size and strength is less important, but I think a strong argument can be made that men and women think differently for essentially the same reasons that they are physically different, and that these mental differences are infact at least partialy genetic not social in origin. There is a growing body of evidence, mostly from contrasting male and female fMRI data, supporting this.

It sounds like you are arguing against peer-pressure as an acceptable behavior. (I can see no distinction between what you are calling "policing" and "peer-pressure"... tell me if that's not an accurate analysis of your point). If it is, let's run with that: Peer pressure is often applied to superficial stuff like the case of fashion trends, as is the case here of a man wearing a dress. Are you suggesting that: Because the subject of gender is involved with a man wearing a traditionally female-a…

Our society is just learning for the first time to disentangle those conflations, and while we work it out, it's better to generally err on the side of accidental rather than inherent. You had me until here... you seem to be implying that it's smart, even prudent, to throw the baby out with the bath water. And I just can't agree with that. Civilization is a technology, and like every technology it has a purpose: namely to ensure the survival and welfare of our species. Our norms, traditions, and…

Pattern recognition is acceptable in regard to onesself but trying to apply it across the board is hurtful and oppressive. And 100% reflexive. Seriously, there is not non-comatose human being who doesn't notice and act on patterns in the behaviors of others. Generalizing is a necessary and powerful intellectual tool. I refuse to label as "hurtful" anything that is universal and unavoidable.

Um... why should we want to "eradicate norms of how men and women behave"? There is a persistent trope out there that the only road to justice (particularly popular with "social justice" advocates) is to promote absolute and total equality in all things. This is idiotic and the sign of social activism that has lost its way and is in search of reclaiming its soul. Eradicate the inequalities between males and females that harm or advantage one at the EXPENSE of the other... sure fine whatever... b…

Some states have their jails and prisons be the same building just in different parts while others have them separate altogether. I'm sorry, I know this is incidental to the point of your main post.... but I've always treated "Jail", and "Prison" as exact synonyms... that is refering to exactly the same institution, same building, and same operating authority... just different words for the same thing. Is that not the case?

Many modern biological experimental techniques produce many gigabytes of data... DNA sequencing for example, but also mass spec, and microarrays, and other techniques. Bioinformatics is the hybrid discipline that represents the confluence of computer science, statistics, and biology necessary to make sense of these vast datasets.

Being a psychology student, I have seen some horrible misuse of the word "psychological" in just about every context when people try to tell me something they've "learned" about psychology. Usually, I let it pass and quietly take whatever botched definition they try to spin at me. I think people like to use this word like a infatuated teenager throws the word "love" around while not truly understanding the meaning of it. I think the reason they do this is simple. Words such as love and psycholog…

The best way to respond to cover-your-ass style anti litigation strategies is to sue the entity with the policy... in this case one would set up a legal fund to sue airlines claiming defamation of character and mental stress to man forced to be reseated. Once the litigation risks balance one another, if your contention is correct, the policy will be reversed.

Let me get this straight... this dude had 10 different girlfriends in the space of time it took him to write this 92 page book, and he's upset that these same girls "kept men on the side". If he were in something like a committed relationship with these girls, then it would be reasonable for him to expect an equal level of commitment from them, but that doesn't sound like the situation to me. It sounds like he was being deceitful, and was annoyed when his girls were too. This characterization is…
