You cannot be legitimately great at something without being a bit obsessed with it. Enjoy the struggle, enjoy the grind, enjoy the pain and move forward. Best of luck

I would normally fight at 165/70 but they didn’t have a fight so I had to fight at 180. I weighed 175 at weigh-ins and couldn’t for the life of me gain weight. Opponent likely weighed 190 day of the fight. With striking (especially amateurs) the 10 lbs doesn’t make a world of difference like in wrestling/jiu jitsu because your opponent isn’t laying on you.

Agreed. Boxers punch incredibly well and are very specialized. But people greatly underestimate the effectiveness of working in leg kicks, elbows, knees

I enjoyed hitting hard in football but never fighting. About 6mo in to Muay Thai I was actually going to quit because I got tuned up pretty good. But a mentor just told me I need to do it more, so I did. I’m not naturally tougher or more aggressive than other men. I’m just conditioned to pain and technique now. I have always worked out though, some periods harder than others.

Cost. Good gyms are seldom cheap. Look for accolades of Thai boxing like belts/medals. Ask the instructors how many fights they’ve had. There is a huge difference between training Muay Thai and fighting Muay Thai. With jiu jitsu - look for how quickly they promote and give belts. Some gyms give belts to keep membership high, and it’s wrong. I know guys at my gym who’ve been training 5 years and still a blue belt because they haven’t gotten the skill level up enough to earn the purple.

The stance is the big difference. Also lead hooks are sometimes different with thumb placement. Muay Thai is a very square stance to properly check kicks. Boxing is long skinny stance. I learned a good foundation for Muay Thai, and then started working with our boxing program but let the instructor know my focus is Thai boxing so they allowed my stance to be more square. Both are very effective martial arts and you can’t go wrong with either. That being said I’ve never met a person with no exper…

I about TKOd him four times. I blew his nose out with a cross in the 2nd round. I tried buying the mate a beer afterward but he wasn’t feeling it (reasonably)

Nofap gets a lot of flack (rightfully so) but I legitimately experience mental clarity, more energy, and my sparring is night and day difference when I hold back for a few days.

Thai boxing and Brazilian jiu jitsu can work wonders in terms of legitimate self defense and growth of mind.
