I find it very difficult to believe that these sorts have any value in the casual hookup market. If anything, it speaks to how desperate modern man is becoming. Presumably, these women are punching way above their weight (no pun!)

Genuine question. I fully understand why a woman with a toned body might choose to show it off. For me personally, this would raise a series of red flags. However, there are plenty for whom it wouldn’t. However, why do seriously overweight women choose to do this to? Whilst there might be a few people who are thus inclined, the average man won’t find it attractive. As tinder operates superficially, surely it’ll only result in a swipe to the left?

The fact that her husband is happily remarried, whilst she isn’t, drops a pretty big hint as to where the problems were coming from.

Her offer, to quote Ghandi, is a “post-dated check on a crumbling bank.”

She thinks she's the dog's bollocks. That's likely the problem.

She texted the next day; embarrassed, apologetic and thankful I'd ensured her safe return home. The incident confirmed beyond any reasonable doubt that she wasn't girlfriend material. However, I continued to meet with her occasionally until I met my fiancee.

This was pre-Tinder. Plenty of Fish was the main outlet, in London at least. Having acquired greater self-confidence, kicked myself into shape I eagerly signed up and began to enjoy some success. Enter Faye, as we'll call her. We immediately clicked, great conversation which rapidly switched to some heated texting. We arranged to meet up in a central London pub. I arrived on the evening, pretty confident of my chances only to find that she was late. A few texted apologies later, I was about to l…

Nothing surprises me anymore, so it's entirely plausible My abiding childhood memory of her takes place at her brother's bar mitzvah. At the tender age of 15, she groped me beneath the table. In hindsight that moment made clear the shape of things to come. Suffice to say that she's been disowned by her parents.

I used to doubt that anyone could have four children by the age of 25. This naivety was shattered over Christmas break 2018. We spent the break at my parent's home and I wound up getting a really bad ear infection. A trip to the doctors resulted in me running into the daughter from a family that used to be vaguely acquainted with mine. She (who was white) had four different children each of which was a slightly different racial mix (black, east asian, Indian/Bengali and white). In other words, s…

Presumably her favourite book is 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' or something in and around that level of sophistication. I really doubt she's read any Tolstoy.

I started my civilian career teaching at a school in the arse-end of London attended by the offspring of people like her. The only ambition of these children was to cause the maximum possible disruption. No doubt, they'll follow in the footsteps of their mother upon reaching maturity. Call me an old fogey but there's much to be said for the traditional, nuclear family.

I made a post about this a couple of weeks back, which I have linked. My situation was strikingly similar to yours. I attended a traditional, all-male boarding school and entered University eager to meet women. Suffice to say, things got off to a rocky start mostly because I pursued the wrong types. However, particularly during my second year of University I enjoyed a lot more success and ultimately met my now fiancé.

My comment was mostly focussed on the practicalities of dating and one's ability to make that first connection with someone. I think dating apps do add a layer of complexity which didn't exist in the first place.

I have never used Tinder so I stand to be corrected, but it seems to me that it has completely ruined dating. I began to actively look for a girlfriend about nine years ago. Online dating had existed for some time and Tinder was in its formative stages. There remained, however, a strong stigma as well as an abiding fear of meeting strangers on the internet. It does surprise me how much and how quickly people's attitudes have changed. Whilst in theory this medium should maximise one's chances, it…

The grammar in this is appalling. Just look at this sentence for an example of how not to deploy commas: "Some men are, increasingly galvanized by the #metoo movement, and it is amazing to behold." Unreadable, frankly.

When these sorts declare themselves "multiple business owner[s]" I am assuming they're being extremely charitable with the definition of business?

You have all made a strong case and when I next see him I will try and bring it up. Certainly, if I was in his shoes, I'd want to know. I'll have to think at length as to how I should raise it sensitively.

Thanks for your kind comments. I will, absolutely, subscribe to all the communities that you suggest. I'm not sure what I'm able to offer, other than an exhaustive list of things that one shouldn't do. To answer your question, yes, I am aware of how things have turned out for P, E and R. R ended up moving into a flat share occupied by someone I attended a tutorial with. In short, she managed to alienate just about every person in the flat. Cambridge (where I studied) shares the town with anoth…
