He needs to take the reins on this and really be proactive in tackling the issue. It can be as simple as googling anger management techniques and learning about healthy arguing etc. But it can’t just be something that gets addressed after the fact and then neglected until the next time it happens. What does he get mad about? What could possibly warrant tearing you apart so totally on a regular basis?

This sound really awful. If you've addressed how he needs to be mindful of the things he says while he's angry and he hasn't adjusted his conduct then I would end it. Think of functional, peaceful relationships -- is this how they operate? I don't think that rule has to be applied so rigidly for something so massively important in a relationship, especially if it's such a deal breaker. On the other hand, you can't negotiate desire and it can be extremely demoralizing to have to bring up such a sensitive issue repeatedly to no avail so maybe that was the right call. I'm having a similar issue in my relationship too and would appreciate any guidance on how to navigate this.
