Transitioning is not about the societal view, they're not looking for an escape from misogyny, it's about who you are matching who you look like and feel like. There are small parts that are encouraged by societal desires, but that differs from person to person.

I agree with you in the second part, but I see this in the same way the trans women that were stuck in Afghanistan had to go pretending to be masculine to avoid being executed. When it's life or death, people will do things that others might disagree with on principle.
