If your rink has LiveBarn, snip the clip of the incident and use it along with your argument. Agree that you need to tackle this in a healthy way, have conversations, not heated discussions.

There was that story last year about the 12 year old girl who live streamed her suicide by hanging. My daughter was 12 at the time as well. It hasn't always been easy, she's been difficult for years, but that hurt me somewhere deep down that I didn't know could feel pain.

I did. I have full custody. I concede this is not the norm, but I chose a woman who specifically advocated for father's rights.

Is this policy still in place or was this a knee-jerk to the Duke controversy and since been revised?

Two points form my opinion here: 1) She has a weapon, and is in distress, I wouldn't physically interfere either for personal safety reasons. A car is a physical object and isn't in danger of dying. Myself on the other hand, could be bludgeoned by this crazy chick and her golf club. Cars can be fixed and replaced. 2) Recording video in my opinion is interfering. Turn over the footage to the owner of the car and/or police. Problem resolves itself.

Unfortunately no. I've been shat on several times for having an opinion that deviates from this subs hivemind in regards to what would be the most effective use of our energy.

What it says and what you feel is implied are different things. Arguing differently is arguing a mind-crime. It says no adult (male or female) can be without a child.

Probably, but that's still not what the sign says, as 11oops is trying to imply.

Also (and I'm not saying this WOULD happen) Do you think that men would be less likely to use protection if he knew that he wouldn't have to pay child support? Flip it, do you think that women would be less likely to lie about taking their birth control knowing that the male could opt-out of responsibility?

It's possible, they were usually just checking vitals or replacing her fluid bags, nothing I'd consider a multi-person requirement, but they would lock the door open when they were by themselves, and close it again when they left. Just odd, now that I've looked at it from this perspective.

That's interesting. I never noticed it before, but every time my fiance has been in the hospital she has been seen by at least one male nurse and there was always an aide in the room, or the door was left open when he's working with her. Thinking about it, I don't know why I never put one and one together.

I absolutely agree with that statement. It's very easy for a lot of people in this reddit to get overzealous with their arguments for MR, so I was just trying to remind people of level-headed-arguments. It's easy to slip to extreme knee-jerk reactions.

While the headline is sensationalist and has very loose ties to truth, I don't believe that if an issue affects both men and women it isn't a men's rights issue. An issue that affects parents can still be classified an issue for men's rights and something we should look at. We should want equal rights, otherwise we're as bad as the extreme feminists.

I'm not dictating to anybody, whereas all anyone who shares your view has done to me is tell me my opinions are wrong. Go read every post I've made in this thread. Now, who's telling who what they can care about now? Not once did I say nobody should care about this, all everyone has said to me is I "need to care" about this.

You're not very observant. I'm one of the more prominent repying people in this thread. I've stated all over the place why this should be addressed, and why I believe that there are other issues we should be more focused on. I've never said I didn't care, or that this shouldn't be addressed, that's you not listening to what I'm saying. That's on you. If you don't care to debate because you don't care what the other side has to say, you're the one who has the issue.

I live in the US as well, but what you and many other fighting for the cause need to realize is that you cannot fight on the grounds of mens rights without looking at the greater picture and realizing that some issues are bigger and worse than specific to us. There are two separate movements to consider here.
/r/MensRights24/02/11 01:13 AM
1

I stand by my statement that this is a human rights issue, not a mens rights issue. We're not talking about something that only affects men in the US. Female circumcision has only been banned in the US since '96. That isn't that long ago. Some accounts of the Women's Rights movement list it as beginning 1848. IF that is true, IF, that puts the banning of female circumcision in the US at 148 years after the movement began. If you want to argue that their movement took shape in the 60's, that's st…

Get your head out of the sand. Circumcision, which is what we're talking about, is a global concern. Not simply US. I stand by my statement, human rights issue.

I would like to call your bluff here, if I have a son, I can either maintain the status quo, or I can elect to have my son make up his own mind. That is changing for the future.
/r/MensRights24/02/11 12:50 AM

The fact that circumcision can be performed on both males and females is a pretty cut and dry reason this is a HUMAN rights issue. Not specific to males.
/r/MensRights24/02/11 12:49 AM

There is the inherent paradox. We can make choices for our children making this issue resolve itself once a tipping point is hit over the next few generations. Focusing on more prominent issues now will make bigger strides in the movement than bickering over whether we should allow the government to decide what practices cultures should or shouldn't be allowed to follow.
/r/MensRights23/02/11 08:43 PM
5

No, actually, I understand your point of view, but people really have no choice but to go into "auto-approval mode" as you call it. My parents weren't perfect, but they did the best they could with me. I turned out okay. I'm not perfect either, but I'm a direct result of my upbringing, and that allows me to rationally decide that whatever decisions they made were likely in my best interest. I can't change the past. I can only change the future.
/r/MensRights23/02/11 08:33 PM
-1

Actually it has nothing to do with society, and frankly, in this debate I haven't once declared my stance on circumcision. The fact is, when debating the rights of people, you DO need to pick and choose. You can't change everything at once. It's a slow progression. By making a choice for your kids, you've effectively helped your anti-circumcision cause. If enough people do this, the issue will resolve itself and outlawing the practice will be easy because fewer and fewer people do it. Pressing t…

I like to take the path of least resistance. If the movement decides circumcision is bad, and makes a conscious effort to change the outcome of the next generation of children, this becomes a non issue and will resolve itself. While everyone bickers about circumcision, and ignores fighting for financial equality through the broken alimony and child support laws and corrupt domestic courts system that allow a man to lose before even walking in the door, we hurt our chances of making bigger stride…

I'm certainly not basing my opinion on that. In fact, not once in this debate have I mentioned whether I'm pro or con circumcision. This is an issue that should be addressed, but in actuality, we're debating something we have little personal control over since for many of us, the decision was made many, many years ago by our parents. We can control the future and fate of our children. But, right now, we shouldn't be debating for this, we should be debating for other things that are directly affe…

Your analogy doesn't work. If I'm unconscious and have brain swelling after a car accident, do you expect the ER to wait until they can find a relative before they rush me into emergency surgery to save my life?
/r/MensRights23/02/11 07:36 PM
-5

I'm not sure I'm the one with the disconnect. Who's dictating to whom here? Re-read my statement. For me, there are more pressing issues to be debating instead of an issue that only affects mens rights due to the fact it's a sexist rule. I don't know how to express exactly what I'm saying, but while sexism is the root of our cause, circumcision doesn't have the same end result with men as it does with women. There are more pressing issues for us to be working towards.

My parent's made the choice for me. I trust they had their reasons, and I support and respect that. *edit To further my statement, because for whatever reason my stealth edit didn't save, unfortunately, this is not a black and white argument. It's certainly a complicated issue that doesn't have one right or wrong answer. Especially since female circumcision has differing effects than male circumcision. For me, the bottom line is being circumcised hasn't affected most men negatively when it comes…

Circumcision, while different procedures, applies to both male and female children, which is the exact opposite of exclusivity.

Let me preface my statement while reminding people of Reddiquette and not downvoting me because you don't agree. Sure, I guess. To be honest, these decisions are often influenced by culture and vary from state to state, country to country, and religion to religion. Traditions like these often go back many generations, why should the government be permitted to have a rule on that? I'm passionate about many MR issues, but this one, to me, doesn't seem like an issue we should be focused on as much …

I'm happy by not remembering whether it hurt or not. And I'm fine with that. I am also circumcised since birth and never thought about nor cared whether I was circumcised or not. I've never understood this MR issue. Not bashing it, but truly, honestly, don't understand.

I'm having trouble understanding your point of view. At what point was he a willing participant in human reproduction? He trusted her to take her contraceptives. She stopped taking them and withheld that from him. He didn't know. He likely still doesn't know that's what transpired, and likely informed of the 1% failure rate. My example was extreme, but was used to illustrate my point. People have sex for pleasure. That's a fact. Not everyone is trying to have children. He trusted her. She betray…

While it "takes two to tango" there was a high level of deceit in her actions. She knew full well stopping her contraceptives would lead to pregnancy. No able minded person above 18 can claim that they don't know that fucking leads to babies. She knowingly stopped her contraceptives and then admits to not telling her SO. While her actions are not illegal, it's certainly entrapment. In an extremely literal world, you could argue that it's even theft by accessory, baby being accessory to stealing …

No, because there is a lot of other circumstances that I didn't (and wont) go into. Those were two separate points I was making, perhaps it came off that way. I was mostly speaking about being lucky for not marrying someone who would have made my situation worse if she hadn't been caught.
/r/MensRights08/02/11 01:00 AM

That's the situation I went through. I was 23, she stopped taking her BC and lied to me about it. Then I asked her to marry me, luckily I found out she was banging the girl across the street behind my back and lying to my face about it. I got the support thrown in my face, but now, I've got the upper hand in the fight for primary custody.

He may lose this battle, but it will open his eyes to the lengths this girl is willing to go to keep in control. If he doesn't know about this, he's open to marrying her and getting in even worse trouble when she calls the divorce lawyer.

Celibacy comes with it's own set of problems. Relationships are two sided, and withholding sex has the potential to be a disaster for an otherwise stable relationship.

So you're comparing my post requesting some information with all of the other, more extreme, content in this subreddit? I'm not sure that you are able to comment on this situation due to your apparent bias against the rest of the subreddit. Perhaps, had I referred to it simply as "Parental Alienation" would have made it better? Critiquing a choice of words (whether it actually pertains to a certain situation or scenario or not) is a bad reason to simply insult rather than attempt to be constructive with your criticism.

How did you go about getting the court to listen to your pleas? Every time I've tried to call my caseworker about filing for some sort of visitation rights, she tells me I need to talk to another department, all she does is handle the financial aspects. When I speak with the other department, they send me back to the case worker. It's all very frustrating, especially when I'm just trying to do the best for my kid, and do the right thing.
