For sure! I completely agree with you. I should have been a bit more clear. I actually didn't mean to appear to disagree with TYHJudgey. I just wanted to say something about the way we use labels in general. For instance, if female OP does something good, many feminists want to claim she was representing true feminism and label her as such. If female OP does something bad, many MRA's want to lable her as a feminist and a true example of what the horrible feminists are all really like. We all "lo…

Oh, give me a break! The feminists can't even agree on what the "feminist agenda" is. The movement is so divided and contradictory, with a broad spectrum of ideas about what "true" feminism is. They can't seem to agree. Everybody is trying to claim the word and use it for their own benefit. How can there be a "real agenda" when "real feminism" can't even be defined without somebody else refuting the new definition? You might be just making a joke, in which case, that's cool. But in seriousness, …

Another Canadian here. I have to say, we have a perpetual doorholding culture here. It's kind of ingrained in us, I think. I think the whole "ladies first" adage is really outdated now and needs to be abandoned and replaced with "first come, first served". Insisting that women should be served first as a matter of "manners" really hinders gender equality. OP was a lot nicer to that woman than I would have been in her shoes. Women like the one in the story give the rest of us women a bad reputati…

Doesn't EVERYBODY here love labels, though? Even though we might not like to admit it? Especially when it comes to "feminist" or "MRA". Everybody is trying to claim these labels and paint them with either a negative or positive brush, depending on what serves their interests.

I am a woman and I also feel like someone just spat in my face. The ad perpetuates traditional gender roles. A lot of powerful people are trying to keep the men at work and the women home with the kids, including the companies that sponsored this ad. Until this kind of shit stops, people will keep spewing nonsense about dads being lesser parents, and the societal bias against them will continue.

The nature of this study bothered me. They gave the kids 2 options: boy or girl. They did not give them a third option that would allow them to say they did not associate the trait in question with a gender specifically. They basically forced the kids to draw gender associations that may or may not have actually existed in their heads before they were questioned. For me, this makes the results seem a little questionable, which is too bad because this education issue is a really important one.

Thanks. I do not feel like everyone is treating me unfairly. :) I have had some pretty awesome conversations on this sub. That's why I stick around. Many of the people here are not only reasonable, but informative. It can just be frustrating sometimes. Just as with everything, the extremists are often just louder and more outspoken than the reasonable, moderate majority. I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut sometimes in response to those people.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I really appreciate you taking the time to do that. I now have a much clearer idea of where you (and other likeminded individuals) in here stand, and why. Yes, it was helpful. And I will try to use my words very carefully in the future. It can be very difficult at times to effectively and sensitively communicate ideas through a text-only medium. I'm still learning. Not every person in this sub is as rational or reasonable as you seem to be. You were willing to actu…

I agree. So obviously we should not regulate anything, since we don't know what is right. So we should get rid of harassment departments and people should stop complaining about misogyny Are you suggesting that legitimate cases of misogyny either do not exist or that they should be ignored completely? This is not a helpful attitude for anybody and could set a dangerous precedent if it were followed up on. We should not just ignore misogyny, just as we should not ignore misandry. You really lose …

Hahaha! Wanting the license to be masculine is a men's issue and totally legit. Wanting the license to be a total dick to those around you is a whole other story. Not really a gender issue.

And one more thing... ...You're suggesting that we strip men of the masculine behaviour that makes them men, and to 'improve' them so that women get treated nicer? Gee, that sounds realistic. No, this isn't about improving men. This is about men allowing other men to be themselves, whatever that may be, even if it means being less masculine. It's about not having such specific expectations that we would punish each other for falling out of line. It's about human kindness and mutual respect regar…

Since you're not in a role where you have to face hard, exacting situations and tough people on a daily basis That is.... extremely presumptuous of you. I work a hard labor job in a male dominated industry. All my co-workers are "tough people", and so am I. But expectations of that kind of toughness and thick skin aren't really what I was objecting to. I think we are misunderstanding each other here. Your gender does not hand you a right to be treated as an equal; it is your competency, and your…

Your opinion is fair enough. I respect what you are saying, especially about finding truthfulness in male relationships. I'm not going to say either of us is wrong. It's a very complicated issue. There is no one right answer to this whole gender equality thing right now. Everybody seems to have a different idea about how it should be. And I'm not talking about feminists vs men's rights. I mean even within the groups, nobody can seem to agree completely about gender roles, etc. That doesn't mean …

Yes, exactly. It really pisses me off sometimes because it turns into a "boy who cried wolf" kind of scenario. I have seen legitimate sexual harassment towards women in the workplace get ignored because of other stupid people making false claims all the time. People get tired of hearing about it, and then the real victims might not get taken seriously because it's just become a big farce.

Well, let's see. If you really believe women get better treatment right now, would it not be better to try to improve the treatment of men to achieve equality instead of treating women shittier to even the playing field? First off, you are right. Part of the problem is that those particular women you describe are selfish and want special treatment, like you said. But here is another problem I often see: many men don't treat other men very well. They allow themselves to get caught up in the "man …

Is it more clear to you now? Also, are you willing to at least admit that you made some pretty bogus assumptions after having it explained more?

HAHA! Seriously? Not once did I say anything about changing the content of porn or restricting it. In fact, I'm pretty sure I said just the opposite. How did you manage to conclude that I think "mainstream, bland porn" is the only acceptable porn? You are jumping to some very biased conclusions, I think. I did sort of suggest that kiddie porn isn't cool. Are you prepared to fight me on that one? Go ahead. But if you feel that cracking down on child porn specifically would personally leave you wi…

Oh man, there is so much I want to say about your comment. First of all, I'm pretty sure that it's not MY opinion that "is of no consequence." This is laughable. Porn is more readily available now than EVER before, so my pro-porn opinion is actually of more consequence than the feminists who oppose it. Their attempts at political action are constantly drowned out and their attempts to control the porn industry have been fruitless, so quit whining about their whining! We're winning this fight. Se…
