An accusation made about someone from 40 years ago who isn't even alive to defend themselves is being used to slander their legacy and reputation. I think this scenario (in addition to the many others we know) offers a look into how the #metoo movement has gone awry.

I flaired it as "Education" because /u/DrBeansies used it in their post here, but if the mods feel the need to change it, please do so. I am deeply saddened and somewhat enraged by this, but I think staying calm for now is best. I doubt it will get the attention it deserves, but I'll do my best to post it on various other sites and such. In all honesty, though, I'm very interested in seeing what the response from feminists will be. This is downright shameful, and University of York most definite…

I've held this opinion for a while, but was apprehensive about sharing it in public. Now, I don't mind. I believe that women in the West, in general, are a highly privileged and protected class for which feminism is absolutely obsolete, and as such, it needs to desperately cling to third-world happenings to keep itself alive and well to continue fighting for mediocre issues and relevancy in the west. And at the end of the day, feminism doesn't care about those women.

My wife loved it. That makes me happy.

I haven't seen it, but my wife has, and she absolutely loved it.

Honestly, I didn't see it as self-hate. I saw it as him not wanting to live on this planet anymore.

I was just talking about this with a female friend the other day. Men are constantly told from childhood how to treat women. Nowadays, there's not a moment I log into Facebook and don't see some kind of copy-and-paste pic about how men are supposed to treat women. But I can't remember the last time women were told how to treat men. I'm not saying that men shouldn't treat women well, but it needs to be pointed out that it's a road that goes both ways. And I think other posters said it best. In so…

Don't get me wrong, I think it's stupid and I still advocate to other men to never do it. At least not in the state that female/male relationships are now. I had my own reasons for getting married, but if I had the chance to go back in time, I'd reconsider. Nothing against the wife; I've just learned that I love complete freedom way too much.

I agree with you completely. I've been following the MGTOW, MRA, and Red Pill* communities since Paul Elam ran a small podcast and everyday I ask myself why the hell I did it, but I did. But hey, if you married someone like /u/girlwriteswhat, I'd say you did pretty good. *Red Pill is NOT the same nor is a sector of Men's Rights.

I am married. Always said I would never do it (and still wouldn't if this one ended), but I'm with a woman that I've know for years who also believes in Men's Rights. In some ways, I got extremely lucky. But I do still think that marriage is one of the dumbest things a man can do in this day and age. There's just too much stacked against you.

"I'd love to create something like the 'Mary Beard Prize for women online' to support people who are supporting women to be able to use the internet safely," he said in the article, which was published on 8 August." Doesn't he know that there are no girls on the internet?

We've seen these before, but it's your first post, so all is forgiven. Anyway, I've seen these signs in my hometown in the Westfield malls. At first, I was angry, because I felt the sign gave the message that Dads, by default, just weren't considered part of the family. Then, after thinking about it for a while, I thought that maybe fathers just weren't sure whether or not they could go in there (which is bad enough already), and the sign was to let them know that, yes, it is perfectly fine for …

I just didn't want anyone outside the sub to misquote me and use my opinion to say "See?? This is what they all believe!!" I felt that something such as that would cause insta-chaos in certain environments (for example, posting something like that on your Facebook wall and seeing what happens.) But as it stands, if it's one of those "everyone's thinking it, he just said it" type of things, then so be it. I'm just relieved to know I'm not the only one calling bs on that.

Well, sure that sounds good on paper, but her maximum possible sentence is his minimum sentence. She can get from 10 months to 5 years for multiple acts and photos, while he can start at 5 years for explicit talk. EDIT: Accidentally a comma.

From 4:00 to 4:30, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. In response to men being tired of constantly being told things like, "All men are rapists!" or "Men can stop rape," or "Don't be that guy," she asks, "why the obsession with rape?" Wait, what? So, men's right's activists being constantly told by certain sects of society that "all men are rapists" and having a problem with that are obsessed with rape?

Why do they keep using the word "allegedly"? The surveillance footage is quite clear.

Also, if someone offers quotations in the post title, they should at least make sure that said quote is actually in the article. We're better than crass assumptions. Side note: I looked up the word "crass" to make sure I was using it correctly (hadn't used it in a while), and the definition was this: "lacking sensitivity, refinement, or intelligence. 'the crass assumptions that men make about women.'" I lol'd.

I suppose that now we're being told what a "real" MRA is. An excerpt: "So many men, too, reported feeling disgusted by the attitudes of the shooter and his alleged peers, the "men's rights activists" that not only influenced Rodger, but publicly predicted more violence if men aren't given what they want." The link she offers for this information goes straight to "Return of Kings", that PUA site run by Roosh, one of the most (if not THE most) famous PUA on the internet. But she COMPLETELY misquot…

It absolutely INFURIATES me that people keep using guys like Elliot Rodger to discredit us, a group that he had absolutely nothing to do with. I've been an MRA and more-or-less an MGHOW for about 5 years now and stay abreast with many circles and sites and prominent members. Someone like Elliot Rodgers has not, and will never be, considered a martyr for the Men's Rights Movement. That notion has been COMPLETELY fabricated by groups and individuals who wish nothing more than to silence our voices…

My immediate thought as I read this article, was that it was very unfortunate the author confused the Men's Rights movement with the Red Pill lifestyle. Truthfully, though, I think the author did know the difference, but decided to go through with it anyway, knowing that the average, non-assuming reader wouldn't know any better and would readily swallow this BS without much question.

"The authenticity of the report could not be confirmed." That quote sticks out to me. While rage inducing if legitimate, the article and source do nothing for our cause except make US look stupid. Let's not become what we fight against.

I'm in the military (Navy), and I don't really see the men being overlooked, in my opinion. I've only been to two different commands so far, but both have done stellar jobs in recognizing that men are victims of this, too (with assaults from both men and women) and ensuring that they get the help they need. Sure, the sailors THEMSELVES tend to make it more about the women, but as per our policies, it's an issue that concerns all hands equally.

In what context? I'm only asking, because I can think of so many different scenarios, although my general consensus is to keep it to a minimum. In the same way I said above about sexism being sexism, abusive language is, well, abusive. But we're all human, and I'd be lying through my teeth (keyboard?) if I said I'd never had less than good things to say about/to/regarding the opposition.

I've been a lurker of this sub for a while now, about 3 or 4 months. I never made an account for two reasons: Someone else often says what I'd have said. I didn't feel I'd be active enough to convince people that I'm not a troll, as I'll be traveling soon, and Internet access may be scarce. But it was because of the reasons expressed in my post that I decided I couldn't just sit back and observe anymore, and I felt I needed to speak up about it. So yes, I guess you could say my concerns triggere…

I believe they do as well. Sexism is sexism, regardless of the source. But I think we've got to give it more relevance and meaning to such posts instead of the "hit and run" style posting that is becoming popular here. Or else, like multiple people here have said, it belongs in r/MensRants. This main Men's Rights subreddit is our front page and first impression, and first impressions go a long way.

I can assure you that I am no troll, although with the recent trend of "what does this have to do with men's rights?" comments (whether honest questions or attempts to derail the discussion), I can see why someone would feel that way.
