2	CNN: Should false rape accusers be sued? An acquittal is not evidence of a false accusation. Thank you, it took a surprisingly long time for someone to make that distinction. It is extremely difficult to convict someone of rape, and simply because they are acquitted does not mean they didn't do it. Genuine victims of any crime have nothing to fear from a system that punishes false accusers, because there would not be evidence of a false accusation in those cases. Rape victims are heavily stigmatized against, which is why so little percentages of rapes are reported. The "victim" never has to prove anything or reveal their identity. The fact that it's anonymous will likely give people who have been raped the courage to report it without facing retaliation from their rapist/shaming from society.
