A good video, if slightly out of date. We're no longer living in an economic wonderland and Seinfeld and Ally McBeal are not exactly popular culture. Most everything still rings true.

And those Christians must be prepared to be pre-judged for their name, as their name carries with it certain levels of baggage in certain areas of the world. You carry the word Feminist with you and hold contradictory beliefs from the general silhouette feminism generates and ask the reader to ignore the rest of the disagreeable stuff by omission. The names you use will carry weight, and if the aggregate does not believe it to be true of the name and you don't identify with that, why continue wi…

When you have to make as many defensive statements as to what you don't believe or do believe in contrast to what is believed to be true of the name with which you label yourself, isn't it time to drop that name?

The doublethink and spin that is coming out of their mouths is terrifying. They have so much power, and they want to direct the efforts that would go towards helping men into screening them to see who's faking it? How much willpower would it take for a man to admit to needing help, and then get screened out as the perpetrator playing victim. As for the perpetrator playing the victim, playing the victim is a ploy of those who can effectively use hypoagency. I sense a bit of projection on their pa…

This video is excellent and well worth the full 53 minute viewtime. (Although little said is new, it is presented well.) His points are salient, presented with vigor and occasional humor (in that, it's funny because it's scary kinda way). I wonder if it would be of any use as a redpill. Perhaps a bit too harsh for softer palates relative to GWW. Certainly harder to argue against, unless you specifically resign yourself to critiquing hyperbole.

I am a massage therapist. Also male. I faced a lot of this shortly after graduating. I am now employed, more due to luck and networking than anything. Many of my male co-graduates are conspicuously underemployed. In almost every job interview, there was some discussion of the matter of my sex and how that would play into the business. Given the nature of the business - that the buck stops with the person on the table - their personal dollar is going to have their personal biases. Spa owners know…

The hollywood segment reminds me of the TV show "Awake." In one episode, the case of paternity fraud is covered. Of course, the culprit of this paternity fraud is a fertility doctor, and a male one. I don't watch much TV anymore. What I am watching predates a lot of the current investment of stories with dialogues and themes that no longer interest me, material from the 80's and before. Back when it was okay for a man to be a hero and women could be villains without conceit. I see these themes s…

I am a massage therapist and a man. I had a heck of a time finding a job. I had one woman with a small-medium practice straight up ask my why she should hire another man. It is the way things are that a wider number of people prefer a female MT. Her innate biases may have made things trickier, but I hardly got to know her. At least from her I got an interview. Many job postings would specifically request female, or not specifically request it and simply not return calls/emails. In school, there …

I would hazard a guess that she's currently living in a bubble. She's on campus, completely enveloped in the ideology without any outside force acting on it. You are her brother, likely her older brother so she views you as some sort of fuddy-duddy who's opinions don't matter. Rather than use reason, expose her bubble to the needles it needs to pop it. Bring her to places where her ideology clashes with reality. If you ever have time to mutually consume entertainment, watch a movie that will bai…

These folk were not very popular among passers-by. I was able to eavesdrop on conversations of students going from point A to point B. None of the commentary was in their favor. A lot of it was dismissive. Some of it was in disgust. They were correctly identified as radical feminists.

Honestly, the majority of the question and answer period was built of completely off topic soap-boxing. Questions as they were asked were off topic. I would have liked to say my comment in an organized manner, but time ran out. And yet if they were told to get to the point, the rest of them would call out, "censorship." That's exactly what they were doing. Absolutely infuriating.

Of course. Loaded questions abounded. The whole thing was an exercise in l'espirit de l'escalier. (What I should have said was...) I have a question I'd like to ask back: To the fellow who said he's in a female studies class that is 10% male, what is feminism doing in bring gender studies classes up to 50% representational equality?

Me either, but we'll never know what she meant by that. I will assume her answer as incomplete and not pass moral judgment. The question itself was formulated with no correct answer. Not one that could be given in the time allotted. She mentioned the name Margaret Summerville while being shouted down. I'll be looking up what that means. Edit: Just did a quick google search. Found Margaret Somerville in relation to some statistics on artificial insemination.

That would also go towards solving some of those problems. Was Dr. Farrell's talk pay to enter? And I have a feeling the lesbian question will be coming back around again, taken out of context, and blown way up.

facepalm It would have been nice to hear what she had to say to any on-topic questions. It would also have been nice to have heard actual questions. So much of it was seeded with precursors that used so much jargon and were so far off topic that the speaker couldn't conceivably have a response in the time given. I'm pretty sure the one woman had schizophrenia. Not saying that as an insult, I'm saying that because she displayed symptoms of schizophrenia. The question she asked couldn't even be an…

I was there. It was shortly after the time the lecture was slated to start. The alarm was pulled. Conflicting signals were issued about whether to stay or exit. Finally, we were told to exit. About three or four fire department vehicles arrived. I saw two approach from the south. The FD shut off the alarm and then we filed back in again. While we were outside, there were some people chanting something and marching down the street. They had their faces covered. I'm sure there will be plenty of vi…

This video is well worth watching. It examines biases that have inflated beyond the studies and into the wider river deltas of information. The second and third examples I don't find as shocking as the first. The first does the study right. The information is present to draw conclusions fairly and without bias. Those conclusions become skewed, and then the representation of it dilutes as it goes up the food chain. This is a good seed that gets planted, but still turns into a poisonous plant. Tha…

Depression is a hot topic in my life of late. My public face is happy and smiles. I generally feel happy and smiles. I'm relatively popular with a decent circle of friends. Occasionally and privately, I'll get spurts of woe, thinking, "I'm gonna die a horrible death." (I also have an anxiety related disorder for which I've been diagnosed.) I've had an argumentative incident with a friend recently who suffers from manic depression/bipolar who's lows are very low and witnessed and borne the wrath …

My goodness, Dr Farrell is such a good speaker. All points made on this show are enlightening, and not just specifically to the issues of men's rights. Look at my first post. It was about the 2nd hand experience of a man abused. What is your style of poetry? Are you including numbers? I figure that would dull your roar. Then again, I've never really tried composing a poem with numbers in it. I have for a long time thought about a scene in a play where you have a domestic abuse situation played side by side. Everything that happens in one side happens on the other, difference being the sex of the aggressor. Words are the same, shouted in unison,…

Ouch. That was painful. There's got to be a name for that psychological tactic. "Here's what other people are saying about you, nasty nasty things. You eat children, you kick puppies, and you wet the bed. Not us though, we never say that. We're your friends! But we just told you what those other people are saying, so you have that fresh in your mind. In fact, you only ever heard those things from us, just now." It's like some sort of cult indoctrination.

Any time he mentioned children taken from their parents, my thoughts went two ways. First, how damnably angry I would be. I would do anything to get my kids back. Second, the entertainment trope of Taken or 24, where someone's daughter is kidnapped by Evil MenTM and then that someone goes on a murderous rampage to get them back. It is a given that a parent, especially a father, would, could, and should do everything in their power to get their kids back. You are then expected to willi…

Excellent news! That will go much further in identifying your causes. Please, keep being a feminist and further than that, bring up some men's issues every once in a while. Keep things fresh in the feminism movement, assuming you're active. Talk about men's rights as often as you do women's. And don't forget about those big fish. You can mention creep shaming and objectification 'till you're blue in the face, but it won't do much good if the men you're trying to help aren't alive, or have alread…

Excellent! Now I want to find those feminists who agree with me. Here's a problem, how do I call them? When I approach a feminist, how do I know they're going to be one who agrees with me on these issues? The fact that there are plenty of feminists who agree does me little good if there are some who disagree. How do I tell the two apart? Is there a secret handshake or tattoo? As evidenced in your TL;DR, you're talking to the wrong people. You're right, feminism shouldn't be about women's issues, it should be about gender issues. But it isn't. It has proven itself in practice to be by women and for women. You're talking to the wrong people. The folk on this forum aren't the ones who should be hearing this. The people who are best able to change feminism are feminists. Feminists promised the moon and then kept all the cheese. So here's a challenge, post exactly what yo…

I remember seeing the pink and black "because I am a girl" signs on buses and public transit in my city. Those particular ones are no longer in use, however one little statistic they had was something to the effect of, "X number of children in Y country go without education, AND 50% OF THEM ARE GIRLS!" Now, I'm not a biologist, but I would think that the numbers of boys and girls should be around 50/50. So, what they're saying with that statistic was, "X children are going without education. We …

Humor will take time to develop in the movement for precisely this reason. At the moment the jokes you get will be a sort of morbid gallows humor. I have little evidence to support this position, but I am of the opinion that the majority who make it to the movement make it only after getting stomped. Where humor already does come into play is against some of the radical feminist notions. Parklandia's women's bookstore sketches always have me in stitches with a side helping of rage. Stitches beca…

I don't find hate here. Plenty of outrage, disgust, and vitrol, but hardly hate. What people may perceive as being hate is their ideologies being criticized vociferously. When something you hold as a part of your identity is being taken apart and examined by the very people who have been hurt most by it, it can feel like hate to those who hold it as their name. Feminism is a name that has gone without critique for too long, and so has atrophied its argumentative muscles. The sting of exercise is…

I think I get what you're saying to some extent. Your original post is not particularly clear on what you're getting at. If this post here is a more articulate argument, then yes I sort of agree. Sort of. Hello something of doom! You are not the first person to ask this question. Here's the response I used last time that I believe still applies. The person then asking the question wanted to say Human Rights, but Equal Rights still applies here. Why not use the term Human Rights? In part because that term doesn't identify men. Both statements are true. The WBC's actions are regularly denounced. They go to protest at funerals of honest men and women and are met with counter protests and scorn. These counter protests are often led by other christian groups and receive as much publicity. Feminists at the University of Toronto recently protested a talk given by Dr Warren Farrel on the topic of boys and men falling behind in education, the dismal suicide rates, and other topics relevant to the rights of men. Where are the …

Keep in mind, feminism does not mean women. Feminism is an ideology. That which is against feminism is not against women, it is against feminism. To believe that feminism is beyond critique and rebuke is to deify it. To be critical of feminism does not mean to be against the rights of women. Feminism has much more to it than merely that. It cannot be explained in a single sentence. There are tenants within feminism that are actively hurtful to men (and women, for that matter.) Feminism has so ma…

You have here an assumption that has already caused a lot of trouble. That any helping men automatically hurts women. This is a false binary. Many a law has been created that attempts to use this false binary as though it were equality; that is making things that hurt men to help women. Working from the assumption that women are automatically disadvantaged in every aspect has led to things that were passed into law that strip rights from men. Things like restraining orders obtained on word alone…

I remember a time four or five years ago when I was presented with a flier on a men's rights forum (at UofT incidentally) and I had the same shut-down reaction. If people don't want to hear it, they won't. If people think they know better than you, they won't listen either. (Speaking from personal experience.) I've found the best moments are of logical shock where you can make someone realize how incongruous their ideas are. They are elusive moments, but rewarding ones.

There is a disconnect I have noticed when talking to people. Within the same conversation I may bring up problems men face and talk about them at face value as being problems. Any conversation can easily flow towards a men's rights topic (although I don't advise doing it so often you become a conversational automaton). We can agree, yes, these are problems and men face them. However, in two conversations (out of how many I don't know) that I've had to this point, bringing up the topic of Men's R…

I saw this going VERY differently: Same intro, same music. The can rolls under the lawnmower and the "he's so sexy" look on the ladies faces become the reaction to "he's being maimed by flying shards of aluminum and exploding mower" with a cessation of music and an overlay of shredding metal and screaming. I mean, really, why would you roll a liquid filled metal object towards someone using a dangerous machine filled with rapidly spinning blades?

There are several tactics you could employ to shock a person out of their firmly held beliefs. Even a moment of doubt can worry a fixed mind. Tactics employable will depend upon the time you have to produce them. Wit and succinctness are paramount in a social situation. You can elaborate and hyperlink in text. Conversation has little room for proof, but plenty of room for doubt. The phrase, "we need to do everything we can to stop violence against women" is a point to start. Dismantle it. We: Wh…

If you know that if you ask, you might not get help and may even be derided, you are unlikely to ask. If you have asked for help and do not get it, you are now doubly troubled; you are still in a situation that you want out of, and now people know you have asked for help. I hadn't really thought about it in great detail. I was thinking Men's Rights Activist, but in this case Activism is better for it. Really though, an MRA moment is any moment where the suffering of a man becomes apparent. For some men, their suffering has to reach a heavy point before it breaks through. It can also be reaching out and providing support to men who need it, considering our society doesn't do it often enough.
