"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response.Indeed, that's definitely what I had in mind when I thought to make this picture. I'd thought about doing an equal-but-inverse message, which would depict girls being punished for throwing rocks at boys. It would be the same figure, drawn to look like an 8 year old girl (minus the bruising and cuts of course), being led down a hall by the ear by a teacher (oh, how I loathed it when my teacher did that to me.) The caption would read "Girls threw rocks at boys. Put them in detention!" It would've … | /r/MensRights | 28/07/13 09:08 AM
101 Ways for Men to be Allies to Women, including: "Walk on the other side of the street when a woman is walking towards you at night." Sigh.Recognize your privileges, especially your male privilege (and white privilege if applicable). As a white male, I'm apparently entitled to a life of luxury? Up until a few weeks ago, I spent a very, very long time unemployed and living on social assistance. I would've loved some privilege then. | /r/MensRights | 28/07/13 06:25 AM
101 Ways for Men to be Allies to Women, including: "Walk on the other side of the street when a woman is walking towards you at night." Sigh.In a lot of ways it's used as a "litmus test" to see whether or not you'll agree with their other points. If they see you're not for gay rights, they'll dismiss you immediately. I myself am for Gay Rights (but I'm not for forcing religious groups to marry those they don't want to marry), but I can understand why some people wouldn't be, and I respect it as their opinion and don't think less of them for it. To assume that it's a requirement (a given) to be considered an "ally of women" is absurd. | /r/MensRights | 28/07/13 06:23 AM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response. This is so much better than an "I hate feminists, they all suck, throw rocks at them" tit for tat sort of thread. This is precisely what I had in mind. It was in no way meant to be directed towards Feminism or Feminists. The fellow who created the merchandise is by no means a Feminist, so it'd be highly unfair to blame this particular issue on them, since they weren't involved. I'm sure there are lots out there that would even agree with this response I've made, since they'd find it a delightful… | /r/MensRights | 28/07/13 06:19 AM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response.Yeah, don't downvote a fellow because he doesn't get the reference. Upvote to put you back to 1. It is admittedly an older subject, and some might not have had exposure to it before! That said, another fellow asked for context earlier in the thread, and I responded to him. Feel free to look up what I wrote, or even do research online about it. Either way, thanks for stopping by and putting in a comment! | /r/MensRights | 28/07/13 06:10 AM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response.these people Don't be mistaken, this isn't directed towards Feminists. In no way was that the intention, but feel free to use this in whatever fashion you see fit! It was a rough-done piece made with the expressed purpose of mass consumption (though "mass" may be subjective, hahaa). It is, however, meant to address a rather unfortunate tendency for people to dehumanize young boys by invalidating their intellect, and their ability to express emotions. | /r/MensRights | 28/07/13 06:07 AM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response. What I love is that some people seem to have difficulties separating the emotions expressed by a character, and the emotions that the artist expresses. They seem to think that the artist and his characters are one in the same, and that there's no distinction between the two! I am evidently no more than a counter-slogan, haha. Way to go with the victim mentality. I personally think a little kid getting hit by thrown rocks solely because "he's stupid" is a very accurate definition of victimhood. T… | /r/MensRights | 28/07/13 06:02 AM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response. That would technically be the most equal response. I don't agree with it (nobody should have rocks thrown at 'em), but I respect that you are willing to be fair about it. | /r/MensRights | 28/07/13 05:52 AM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response.Strangely, some artists try and depict things outside of their personal experiences. | /r/MensRights | 28/07/13 05:50 AM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response. But the last thing I want is to continue to behave in the same manner I did as a child. I'm an adult, I have adult coping mechanisms now. But what of the children who are still children? Do we tell them to "man up", because we can't see a reason why they just can't get over it? Because we have the coping mechanisms? As I said, this was my attempt to try and speak from a child's perspective. This isn't allegory, it's a little boy recovering from a violent attack, nothing more. | /r/MensRights | 27/07/13 11:06 PM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response.why are you making a response peice to something that happened 10 years ago. Why not? I mean, 90's "retro/nostalgia" is super huge at the moment, as the 80's was in the 2000's, and the 70's in the 90's, etc. So if that pattern holds true, next decade, we'll be seeing throwbacks to these kinds of things, where mom dusting off her old "Idiot Factory: Where Boys Are Made" binder to give to her daughter so she can be cool, retro, hip, and also laugh at a boy's expense just like mommy did. It all com… | /r/MensRights | 27/07/13 11:00 PM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response.Boys will grow up to be men. Regardless, you can still remember what it's like to be a child, right? | /r/MensRights | 27/07/13 10:47 PM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response. But your missing the point of my statement/this post. Actually, I'd say you were the one who missed the point of this post. How the hell do you expect to be taken seriously when as an adult, (im assuming an adult posted this) your response is to depict a child cowering in the fetal position crying. Have you considered how a 7-year-old boy might act if they've had dozens of large rocks just connect with their face and body? Is crying and the fetal position (holding your legs =/= fetal position) e… | /r/MensRights | 27/07/13 10:36 PM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response. If you want the truth of it: I'm an artist, I'm bored, and I felt like touching on a topic that used to bug me when I was younger. I still see merchandise with this stuff around. In fact, it was seeing it on a t-shirt at a shop downtown not too long ago that made me wonder why they never showed the aftermath of a little boy getting hit by a bunch of rocks. (Obviously because it'd be gruesome. But shouldn't that deter them from depicting the acts following up to it?) But yeah, the fact that it's … | /r/MensRights | 27/07/13 07:16 PM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response.https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/1d/BoysAreStupid.jpg/250px-BoysAreStupid.jpg The fellow who made the "Boys Are..." slogan turned it into a rather large merchandising campaign, where slogans like this are plastered onto school binders, t-shirts, coffee mugs, mousepads, etc. All of the slogans have to do with boys being inferior, or deserving of physical violence. Was a very sad affair back in the day. The fact that you can still find merchandise with these slogans on it is even … | /r/MensRights | 27/07/13 07:12 PM

"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response.I've not downvoted you, and I apologize if I came across as snippy with my earlier reply. My comment was incorrect, too! The leader who spearheaded the campaign was a Father's Rights activist. Not too much of a difference, but it's still a difference! As for the topic at hand: These sort of issues are still important, if you ask me. (Though of course I'm going to say it's important, I just spent a decent amount of time making art on the subject!) | 20 | "Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response.Alright folks, I've UPDATEd the text: http://i.imgur.com/K1DSY6g.png The original wording, as I said to /u/nigglereddit , was meant to convey the "I may be X, but at least I'm not Y!" formula. While it might've been catchy, it wasn't fair to call out the cruelty being expressed without also pointing out that those who support the original image are calling all boys stupid. So I hope this wording's better suited! As far as his posture goes: I chose to leave it as it is. The art was meant to depic… | /r/MensRights | 27/07/13 05:23 PM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response.Yeah, I was kinda stumped for a catchy line. I went with the "You are X.", "I may be X, but at least I'm not Y" formula, seemed to be good enough as a placeholder until I got some feedback. Which reminds me: Thanks for the feedback! The wording I'll be changing this to will be "You may call me stupid", just so I don't have "may" and "say" right next to each other, haha. | /r/MensRights | 27/07/13 05:13 PM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response.Little boys can be fragile too, y'know. Especially mere moments after being pelted with a bunch of rocks. The entire idea of this was to kinda draw out the fact that the entire "Boys Are..." brand revolves around people being outwardly violent towards school-aged boys, or otherwise berating them simply for being on the "wrong side" of the gender fence. | /r/MensRights | 27/07/13 05:06 PM
"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" Well, here's my personal response. You do know that the original public outcry against the slogan in question was spearheaded by an MRA, right? | /r/MensRights | 27/07/13 05:02 PM

A rebuttal to "Hark! A Vagrant"'s Strawfeminism argument. (Bonus: Guess the protest I'm alluding to!)My claim: Asserting that feminism is free of extremism (known colloquially as a "strawfeminist" both in Beaton's comic and in the public at large), or that said extremism is reviled by the mainstream is a very dishonest argument. The comic is trying to disprove this image of infallibility by showing that there are people who act like strawfems, that they identify as feminists, and that contrary to what is said, the mainstream either endorses them or acts the role of bystander. | 3 | A rebuttal to "Hark! A Vagrant"'s Strawfeminism argument. (Bonus: Guess the protest I'm alluding to!)A very good point. Though I cannot blame a person for holding a hateful view, nor can I bar them from participating in peaceful protest. Freedom of speech is a double-edged sword that way. But to be honest, I'd rather live in a place where any random nutjob can voice his or her opinion in a public space than I would like to live in a place where that same nutjob would be jailed on charges of political or social thoughtcrime. | /r/MensRights | 30/12/12 09:13 PM

A rebuttal to "Hark! A Vagrant"'s Strawfeminism argument. (Bonus: Guess the protest I'm alluding to!)I personally doubt they were very involved beyond the planning. It wouldn't make sense for them to get their hands dirty in that way. I agree that protests are absolutely fine and dandy, and their right to organize them should never be called into question. But they are also responsible for the outcome of the protests they start. If not legally liable for it, they at least have to answer for the things that transpire. | /r/MensRights | 30/12/12 08:39 PM
A rebuttal to "Hark! A Vagrant"'s Strawfeminism argument. (Bonus: Guess the protest I'm alluding to!)I would go so far as to say that a completely unaffiliated union ought to be considered neutral on this particular subject. Or, at the very least, a moderate body of feminists who would denounce the actions of violent, angry protesters. As far as professors go: Their job is to present facts and lead discussion, not indoctrinate people to any given ideology. | /r/MensRights | 30/12/12 08:13 PM

A rebuttal to "Hark! A Vagrant"'s Strawfeminism argument. (Bonus: Guess the protest I'm alluding to!)That'd be my answer. Though it also goes to say that these strawfeminists are being portrayed as mythical, reviled creatures in Beaton's original comic. They don't exist, and if they do take on a physical form, they're instantly hated by all and rejected from society for their batshit ways. People who actually do or say things similar to what strawfeminists say are not reviled by feminists. More often than not they're silent when it comes to issues like what was brought up in my comic. | 5 | A rebuttal to "Hark! A Vagrant"'s Strawfeminism argument. (Bonus: Guess the protest I'm alluding to!)Because the original comic that I'm lambasting more or less states that there's no such thing as a feminist radical. It led to the rise of the term "Straw Feminist". Radicalism isn't being construed even as a necessarily bad thing in this comic. The only person to do overt physical harm to anyone else in this comic is the narrator/ protagonist, who sort of jams a travel mug into someone's side. | /r/MensRights | 30/12/12 07:50 PM

A rebuttal to "Hark! A Vagrant"'s Strawfeminism argument. (Bonus: Guess the protest I'm alluding to!)I made a bit of an inaccuracy in the comic. The organization was done by a club under the directorship of the professor, and was given the okay personally. This wasn't done as a class project, but suffice to say that everybody in the class belonged to that club, so it may as well have been. It's not much of a difference, but it's one that ought to be noted. p.s. I'll PM you the video. You've probably already seen the video in question. | 31 | A rebuttal to "Hark! A Vagrant"'s Strawfeminism argument. (Bonus: Guess the protest I'm alluding to!)This is one of the points I wanted to get across. It came up when someone in my friends circle claimed that none of the protesters at the alluded-to event were actual feminists, but rather young adults who go to protests merely to cause trouble. The problem is that in this particular case, the protesters had the support of not only some of the Professors (many of whom were either students of theirs, or attended clubs run with their consent), but also a completely unaffiliated, non-feminist Worke… | /r/MensRights | 30/12/12 05:18 PM
