So what I'm saying if majority of the games that are played were the top down follow instructions type then the argument holds merit, but that is not the case.

Because the type of games that make you follow instructions aren't the ones that are mostly played. If most of the games were like pokemon go and all you had to do was complete tasks to finish the game then the argument had merit. Some of the genres in games that get played more are PvP shooters and MOBAs where following instructions isn't what u do.

So the argument against video games is :- they make u follow instructions?? Sure there are a lot of games that work like that but that's a pretty shit argument to make.
