It’s not just Twitter. And this is Weinstein. He’s not a young man, he’s a predator. Young men accused of rape by a regretful woman is a separate issue than Weinstein on trial, but I do not deny that it is way too easy for a young man to have his life ruined on accusation alone. That’s not right... and it’s not right that women can falsely accuse (not the same as mistaken, but viciously, wrongfully accusing) and have no consequence for that. They should.

Except this is not a matter of a man who’s got one accuser after a questionable departure from normal conduct. This is a man, who has established a pattern, over decades, where he has mistreated subordinate women. Literally DOZENS of women have come forward and supported the allegations. The only reason he is going to trial now, is because the ones accusing him have had the courage and support to do so and get to this point. Yet.... there he sits in a courtroom, with CRIMINAL charges against him, despite all his money and his influence. I guess the prosecution believes he broke the law. Where are all his victims? Are they in a court of law because they committed crimes for what happened to them??? No???

Well, Weinstein is up for trial today because the prosecution found credence to their claims. He committed crimes, they didn’t. He held power over them and their careers as well as the livelihoods of those who depended on those women to keep production moving forward. It wasn’t just about them. So you go ahead and keep up that narrative. I reject it as do millions of other women and girls who refuse to allow men like him to continue his abuse unanswered.

Weinstein is a predator who had power and money and used it as leverage for sexual favors. That is never ok and men who cannot see the power imbalance by citing “adults who made choices” have never been in a position of not only losing their own jobs, but costing other people theirs if a woman is to walk away from that kind of manipulation. Unless it has happened to you, don’t presume to know what it is like to be put in that position.
