You think running around with 40lbs of body armor and equipment on (not including a ruck sack), sprinting from cover to cover and having to keep an 8lbs rifle at the high ready while controlling recoil doesn't require upper body strength? That shit is exhausting. And you can't just say "well besides the stuff that requires strength..." because being able to provide care under fire is extremely important.
