Eh, it's a mixed back. Some people do try to co-opt the label because they think it's "alpha" or whatever cringe bullshit, but most guys (or people , really) are pretty ignorant to it. I'd say a good litmus test is to talk about other innocent sounding things like rigging to see if they actually know anything about the BDSM community or if they just wanted a buzzword to hook people misled by 50 Shades of Gay

Yes, in situations like this there needs to be distinct similarities in order for there to be a disparity in the treatment of opposing cases that could qualify as hypocrisy.
