Lol ironically, he's a urologic surgeon. So, yes. When they're cancerous beyond saving.

Well, he's a surgeon so I'd hope that isn't the case.

I'm Japanese. My family's country is patriarchical, racist, and xenophobic. In fact, there are a lot of values in Japan that say someone like you is inferior for being dark. So what? There's a lot of good in that culture too, but I don't have to accept the things I think are wrong or aren't beneficial to society. What's something TRP teaches that's unique to TRP?

Yes. "Work on yourself. Take care of yourself. Be confident. Don't be a doormat. Split checks to avoid free-loaders." Are all traditional dating advice I was told by my parents and peers and you can find it in any Men's Health magazine.

Yeah, he contradicts himself in his writing, but he's got a lot of good stand-alone quotes otherwise. Some good points, some contradiction, a whole lot of asshole.

I obviously can't tell you you haven't experienced what you've experienced but a lot of anecdotes people post describing what they say are wide-spread phenomena, I can't relate to. I don't know if it's the different crowds these people hang around or what. I've known some women who dated guys who behaved this way for whatever reason. The responses are varied. Most brushed it off initially or talked to them about it. When it kept happening, they either left, retaliated by doing similar things wit…

That's the perception, yeah. That's why she gets the children and the house and money to take care of both. The idea behind the wives getting larger sums is that in cases where a couple has children, they think it would be best for the kids if they are able to continue living in the lifestyle and environment they're used to. Less disruptive that way. I'm not saying the system is right, I'm saying it's a traditionalist mindset that perpetuates the inequality. If you're a father who thinks the hou…

This is comparing apples and oranges. I can talk about the issue you're referring to, but I think the question itself is flawed in a major way. Anyway, I honestly feel women don't need spousal support if they're in an equal-opportunity partnership. I've discussed this in other posts on this sub, but I am for changing the legislation on this. The current system is unfairly stacked against fathers. The problem I see is that you can't be a proponent of traditional marriage roles and then turn aroun…

I actually thought masterrod was defining what is traditionally meant by the words "masculine" and "feminine" in our society-- without assigning a moral weight to them. I think they're right that "gender" is more abstract a definition than biological sex that's defined a lot by the cultural context. I don't really agree with the framework, but it does appear to be just the framework in which they're speaking. Certain terms meaning certain things and such rather than blanket definitions of what m…

Uh first of all, Ancient Matriarchy wasn't what the anthropology statement was saying, but that's beside the point for what I want to talk about. Where is the source for the original RP statement if not anthropology? I'm a scientist in the hard sciences and I'm skeptical about "soft science" anthropology and psychology to a degree too. I haven't seen this particular thought train come up, but I imagine if it is a thing on TRP, it came up from some anthropologist or evolutionary psychologist at b…

What about Asian-American women. Do they count as Asian or as American?

I was just asking a clarifying question since I'm not really following this whole discussion. It don't think it's very clear. But going on your statement of judging an ideology by the merits of the ideology and what it condones, yeah, I would "slander" any ideology that condoned this sicko's thinking. The "alpha male" part in itself is innocuous, but the whole manifesto talking about how women who don't give him sex deserve to die? You could argue semantics about what really is meant by "sexism"…

I agree it can open them up to some negative attention and they should be aware of that. And people should try not to be dicks either.

No one's calling sexism here. I agree there's a gray area, but there are socially acceptable ways of going about things and socially obtuse ways. For your example, cat-calling in general is just weak and rude and a guy shouldn't be shocked by a negative reaction to rude behavior. She also doesn't have to be OK with putting up with rude people. If a woman looks nice, a real man who wanted to show interest would confidently approach her and say something complimentary. Then you read how she respon…

I see what you're saying. It came off to me like you didn't think she had the right to be put off by it. The comparison I was using was mainly in intent. It's the guy's intent to get attention from women, but that doesn't mean he's automatically up for all attention. It's tricky because you're talking about non-verbal cues. The woman's not actively voicing that she wants to get some tonight to everyone either. You're assuming that's what she's saying because she's wearing tight pants. Still seem…

Ok, but that's already assuming she is dressing for men. And even if she is, so what? A guy can complain about how he's lonely and wants to pick up girls but then be put off when an unattractive woman comes on to him. That's his right. She has the same right to be put off by guys she thinks are unattractive too.

A woman can dress for whatever or whoever they want. It really doesn't matter.

We're at a consensus about anecdotal evidence, right? We agree that each of us can find examples of either the husband or the wife being the ass of the relationship whether divorced or not. We agree that for every divorced couple, there's a couple that's married because those are the statistics. I could take your trainer friend's account and counter with the stories of a social worker or the counselor of a battered woman's shelter or something. For anecdotal evidence it's 1:1. Shit goes down on …

Ok, so I take it we both agree trying to recreate a 1950s traditionalist setup is both misguided and counter-productive to changing family law and keeping women from working is unrealistic. It also doesn't really have a place on TRP. That was what I was getting at and I'm glad we share that perspective. Lets not pretend there is equality under the law - there isn't. You really don't need to keep saying this. I've never disagreed with you on this one. I just spent multiple posts explaining that. …

You're still misunderstanding what I take issue with. I'm not saying the laws are good. I agreed with you that they need to change. I myself am not trying to justify them. I'm also not claiming that the one-income household is possible anymore or realistic. We're not talking about the actual state of things, we're talking about the world TRP wants to see. The TRP consistently decries career women, but then turns around and complains that they'll be expected to provide support for an ex-wife if t…

No, by your admission, everybody loses. An argument could be made the man suffers more losses under the current system. But, again, doesn't traditional marriage feed into the culture that condones those inequalities? "Intentionally limiting time the children have with the father, taking 40+ % of someone's income." But if the society decides that taking care of the kids is the woman's job moreso than the man's, it makes sense for the courts to want the woman to have more time with the children. S…

I agree that the things you listed above are bad. I agree that there are aspects that need to change. I'm not saying a "patriarchy" is pushing for these laws, I'm saying the traditional marriage mindset feeds into their culture. Default equal time, no financial reward for divorce and no automatic restraining orders would go a long way to reducing the divorce rate. Yes, fine. You can advocate for these things. But that isn't realistic if you're operating in the framework of traditional marriage w…

I agree that mutual using is fine between consenting adults. I think both parties are fully aware of what they're doing and that's fine. I think the question of who is getting hurt comes into play only if there are children involved. Not even sure what opinion I have on it, but I have some personal experience with it. Never been near Sterling's level, but I grew up in a nicer off community and went to school with the kids of 2nd or sometimes 3rd wives. I knew a kid whose mom was 30 years younger…

I did a lot of experimental dating while I was trying to figure out my "type". I think there are some things about people you don't know you can or can't deal with until you try it out. My first serious relationship was with a guy who was really funny and laid back, but had no direction in life and wasn't smart enough to be interesting. Then I tried a guy who was brilliant, successful, and ambitious, but an obsessive social climber and networker, and had 3 areas of expertise and knew nothing bey…

I like how men seem to have less rules of social conduct. I wish I could call it as I see it with other women without being seen as insensitive and not supportive of my friends. There's an automatic expectation of agreement and solidarity when women relate with other women. Criticism has to be done so lightly and underhandedly it's exhausting. I do have some great girl friends I can be frank with, but they're hard to find.

My standards for choosing an SO are much higher than for a friend or even a best friend. Friends can fulfill separate needs for me. For example, I might have a friend who I go to for hilarious stories and interesting ideas, but whose life goals don't line up with mine. I might have a friend with whom I share deep conversations and shared memories but who doesn't enjoy the same activities that I do. An SO must fulfill all of my important needs and add something to all aspects of my life. This is …

It's been linked to aggression and a lack of empathy 1 and tendency to cut ethical corners in competitive situations or when masculinity is threatened 2. Why do people assume women are more Machiavellian than men?

I understand the discrepancies between men and women in custody and divorce laws and see them as inequitable. But what I can't understand is TRP's denunciation of biased family law and simultaneous advocacy of "traditional marriage" which supports the culture of these laws. If the woman is seen by society as the person primarily in charge of the house and child-rearing and not expected to earn her own income, then it stands to reason that courts would assume the woman needs to have the most time…
