Well, they are being charged with Aggravated Rape, which is the most serious kind of Rape you can commit in the state of Tennessee. It's hard to explain, but we occasionally close out of extreme necessity. Imagine sleeping outside for a few weeks in January. You have to take your boots off because it's usually not healthy to have wet feet that long, so you all bunch up for warmth because it's so cold you can't think. He got out kf the service, got a degree, got married, and decided he wanted to reenlist back into the Corps. It took me fourth months to get his tattoo waiver approved. Just to clarify. They don't treat arrests as convictions. They treat things that are withdrawn, adjudicated, or nolle proseque as convictions. The only winning play is a not guilty. Even if it's withdrawn for lack of evidence, you still would require a high as fuck level waiver, and without the Prosecution AND probably the judge saying they charged you without evidence and withdrew it because lack of evidence, then you would have a chance...maybe. A lot of that depends on where you and what state you're in. Nationally, I'm far more of a democrat. Locally I don't think I've voted as a democrat since I was 19. Democrats in Pennsylvania are generally horrible. Republicans haven't had much of an issue with religion in general, or other things I would consider overly restrictive, so I tend to vote there.

There's actually a legal precedence for stuff like this. If the recording is illegal, but the reason you did it was to protect yourself, it's no longer illegal. At least in the states that's how numerous courts have viewed it. You would only get punished for exposing the tapes, but if it came out that you recorded it when you went to trial or were investigated for rape, it's unlikely they would charge you and if they did it would last a minute in appeals.

The last job I had was administrative work with the government. I made $37 an hour sitting in an office along side all women who made more or less the same. The lock and dam operators for the Army corps of engineers were hiring at the same time. I've never been a huge fan of the Hate Crimes laws because I don't think offending a person in itself should be a crime. These guys are dicks, but being a dick in itself isn't a crime. It shouldn't be. Even if you are in a situation where you don't want or have any reason to be hearing it (like a bus), I believe the right to do it is in itself more important than the offenses others may take to it.
