They have massive rates of celibacy and a huge population cliff because people aren't having sex, partnering or having kids. They have the lowest rates of sexual activity and highest rates of sexual dissatisfaction in the world. Almost 50% of men use sex workers there. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/00224499.2023.2178614 https://unseenjapan.medium.com/japan-is-more-sexless-than-ever-new-surveys-say-a19b88df7799

I think the point is that biological realities (like the mechanistic desire for sex) is mediated by social values and norms that tell you how to and how to not achieve that desire. I think it's fair to say male and female desire is different but saying men can't live without sex is only to say that men, in this current day, exposed to the expectation that they are virile studs, while also repressing their desire because of latent conservative values in a lot of places, have a very complicated re…

Prostitution is extremely common in japan and has been normalised for hundreds of years, and it has one of the most dysfunctional sexual cultures in the world.

I feel like these observations are emotional, unempirical and based on a hunch that makes sense only in the most superficial way. You assume people are capable of accurately identifying what's good for them, of objectively identifying valuable traits and pursuing them. We don't compete with twenty other men in a small group hunting and rooting and sleeping, we compete with ourselves benchmarked to a social construct, and counter-construct of the ideal individual, and people identify with a range…

Actually both are usually more happy with a less than ideal partner in terms of physical attraction. Women generally prefer 10s for casual or purely physical relationships, but actually sustainable long term relationships revolve more around trust and reciprocity, which doesn't really correlate well with physical attraction

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
