Instead of mainstream modern psychologist try these ones. Kant and his essay "Answer to the question: What is Enlightenment" Carl G. Jung. Friedrich Nietzsche. Those works are quite hard for a modern man but if got it properly it can help.. more than help. I wouldnt even write this here if it werent for your parent thing with which i can relate. Good luck.
