Exactly! I’m glad the post gave you space to express. What you’ve pointed to in terms of “celebrating the little things” is very spot on… If anything, they’re only little things when compared to the expectations today. It feels like increasingly no one truly understands the value a woman brings being who she is rather than being an emulation of a successful man. That’s especially striking true for girls I talk to who HAVE actually “achieved” a lot and came out the other side envying the girls wh…

What does it mean that he doesn’t know how to lead and isn’t the right role model? Do you mind being more specific? Also, reading your description, does he have any willingness to do so or hear it? I recommend you phrase it more like it’s something for him rather than the marriage. Also, what happened in the last five years why would he change like this? What does it mean to you that he be a good leader? I suggest you listen to Jordan Peterson’s old university lectures out of “interest” in his v…

I guess to address your first point I don’t really believe that men are better per say but that the roles are very different and not very comparable which is one of my grievances. I do see the benefit in the flexibility of the second formulation, and it is the more mature choice, but I believe the baseline belief should be that different in that women might lean more towards one role and men towards the other (with differences of course not everyone is that and I don’t like sweeping generalizati…

Would you mind explaining more I feel like there are some gaps between ideas I can’t seem to accurately bridge

Yes!!! Exactly! Part of what I’m experiencing is also men’s reaction to it which is a point people don’t realize. And why I feel sort of victimized. The mainstream culture today about respective roles in a relationship just makes for a toxic environment in a relationship in general.

That’s such a valid fear! I’ve been thinking about this as well for the last few days after seeing the responses but I feel like a lot of people are making it work and reducing their lifestyle for a while. I remember before feeling this way, I had moved to Vancouver (across continents) and started being taken by all the professional opportunities that I can have if I delay my PhD path and take my time with it and my partner started reacting negatively (as he should as I just woke up one day want…

Exactly!!!! I posted the question on another forum and ironically a lot of the answers obviously came from non-married women or men who have obviously not been through this. And/or are lying to themselves about the pressure of surrounding circles especially as women. They seem to forget that we’ve evolved to value community because it’s how we survive and being isolated from our community for the exact thing that they pushed us to do is absurd!!

Yes! It already creates discord especially when I unconsciously jump at any professional chance, respond in an egotistical (? Not sure of the word) way, don’t have time, etc… I’ll check the book out.

Thank you for the rec! :) IKR! I used to be that type A but it was more young energy and delusion (I feel 40 not 26, at this point). That energy only drove me over the edge mentally and physically. The more stressed I was on the inside the better I tried to dress/do my make-up on the outside. It became a vicious cycle of being congratulated on my misery…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
