SO, why do women feel the need to participate in women only environments? Why is Curves so successful?

Brings up a good question. Why do men do this?

One would argue that the central role of leadership and authority is that of parent, and in our present society men are not expected to dominate or even occupy this role to anywhere near the degree that women are. Furthermore women make up the majority of both the workforce and of students in higher education. This is important because it points towards our future and who will be in positions of power within our society for the decades to come. The key thing to notice is that this is being heral…

I am speaking from the perspective as Feminism being one of many schools of thoughts that can provide wisdom. Most here frame Feminism as some kinda whacky out there idealogy. Creationism is 'wrong' not because of its influence by religion, but because there is no actual real proof to its method as a way to explain the origin of beings. Feminism on the other hand has a lot more going for it (being, you know, a large and varied school of thought) thus the comparison to something like creationism …

I was trying to allude to the overall idea that this response of "Removing sexual imagery" is pretty much the bare bones least possible effective thing you could do. While on its surface may seem a nice gesture, it doesn't really address why the abuse happens or why it continues to happen.

How is combating destructive behavior 'anti-male'? In fact this video in question is probably the most roundly 'pro-male' in all aspects.

Hagel also unveiled the Defense Department’s annual report on sexual assault, which estimates that about 26,000 troops experienced some form of “unwanted sexual contact” during the past year. That’s roughly one in every 50 troops in the active-duty force. Those numbers are derived from anonymous surveys designed to estimate the prevalence of sexual assault in the military. Those surveys suggest that only a fraction of troops who are the victims of sexual assault ultimately come forward to make a…

passiveaggressivecomment.txt Seriously, I am laughing aloud right now at how ridiculous this comment is. Is it REALLY that hard to consider it without assuming its false? Its almost like if anything even has a HINT of feminism, posters here turn into literal children.

I think it also points out something even more important: The idea of a empathy deficit disorder. If one does not know their own feelings, how can we expect them to understand the feelings of others?

I don't mean to be that person, but nothing of the sort happens in this this video. A more apt title would be "Thomas Sowell gives his opinion on things in relation to certain questions while the video is framed to speak to an already established group thought of libertarian minded thinkers" Secondly, this does nothing to 'dismantle' Feminism which being a large and varied school of thought is not solely defined on one or two issues but many many many many issues. And Racialism, really? Really?

Don't you remember? Its mensrights! That means when a woman wants to do something concerning their own body its suddenly a mensrights issue because EVERYTHING a woman does can possibly inflict harm upon the already precarious state that men exist in current culture. But the person is missing the point is that death rate is mostly higher because either the midwife is not trained properly or that they don't have the medical equipment to possibly deal with complications after the birth.

There is also this more concise definition of patriarchy as a term used in the context of Feminism that which I found on a certain forum. "Patriarchy is a social system in which men are expected to dominate the central roles of leadership and authority. It is perpetuated through cultural norms and concepts which have roots from long before any of us were born. Patriarchy is not a secret cabal of men plotting ways to oppress women. It describes the entire structure of a given society, from the ro…

Patriarchy is a social system in which men are expected to dominate the central roles of leadership and authority. Its important to know that this describes a cultural institution, which can be upheld by men or women whether it benefits them or not. Typically it only benefits the already powerful. It exists both big and small though in terms of oppression. Its relevance to the MRM includes how patriarchy is very oppressive to men as it defines the contradiction that is how women can be like men,…

In that case it was a troll. I would like to clarify that SRS and Againstmensrights are not trolls. They do care about mensrights, its just as mensrights exists now its very easy to make fun of because of how awful it can be. They find the opposition to feminism laughable because feminism provides the academic context for the elaboration upon why inequality exists in a cultural context. At a base level, mensrights as a movement on the internet is basically a non-inclusive version of social justi…

I do have an issue with it. I already acknowledge that it should not be done at all. I just have an issue with others who think they can just come up to me and say "You are a lesser human because you are circumcised! You should be angry!" Nope. I will not. Its not of your business to decide what I think of my own body, especially my private parts.

First of all, no I am not a troll, I only have low comment Karma as I tend to employ feminism in my writings here at mensrights and for whatever reason that bothers people. Aside from the occasional snipe. What man shaming? What 'normal' people? What does cosplay drama have to do with feminism/feminists? These are valid questions because what does this all have to do with mensrights? I don't see it.

No. I don't understand the people that do. Unless of course there was complications, then that is a different story. Violated or a sense of loss? What I have now is all I know, and will ever know. Its not possible to have a sense of loss as I never lost anything at all. I don't feel violated because I like who I am too much. I personally think people make too much of a big deal out of it sometimes, but for all the wrong reasons. The attitude that circumcision was a giant slight against them, the…

I don't see why people are splitting hairs over this. If you are trying to have sexual relations with someone you don't know very well, OF COURSE YOU SHOULD ASK FIRST. If you already know someone very well and are already romantically involved with them you wouldn't need to ask because you would trust each other enough by that point. Sheesh, Its so simple, I don't know why people are so obsessed with minutia. Its not that hard to figure out. I think what bothers me though is how people treat sex…

I don't see anything wrong with this. Feminism is an already established school of thought. I don't get the comments here. Title is misleading, this is all it says about their Gender: "They may have been Chechen. They may have been male. But that was not all they were. Their lives were like all of ours: full of small incongruities that build and blend to drive us in different directions. Another thing we think we know about the brothers is that they lived in the middle of one of America's richest cities, near a gas station. And a retirement home. And an auto-body shop. I am on the fence with this one. Its a crime yeah, but at the same time from my understanding I just don't see it affecting everyone equally. The cultural implications, along with other things makes me think its more necessary to focus on teaching men what exactly rape is and how to avoid it. I just can't say its a gender neutral issue, its certainly doesn't seem like one.

I don't mean to be that guy but SRS IS the rational feminist subreddit. Its pretty much the purest strain of feminist thought you can find on Reddit. The reason why Mensrights and Feminists don't get along is because Mensrights related things tend to subscribe to gender essentialism. Mensights related things tend to go into discussion with already defined ideals of what a man and a woman are and what their purpose is. Whereas feminists do not subscribe to gender essentialism, rather they analyze…

Alrighty I have to be honest with you, it makes less sense this way. The satire doesn't work because the original article was pretty much on the money. It only shows me that yet again MRAs don't seem understand that you can't fix oppression by being oppressive.

Thats problematic thinking. Sexual Harassment is still just that. But the thing people miss is that a Man's Sexuality is not bad or perverse or deplorable. It is simply over-represented to the point that it becomes all we see of it, rather, the default. Thus what happens is that the act of telling a man to tone down the sexual aggressiveness is not in a cultural context a bad thing as men are already considered sexually aggressive by default. Most importantly, a woman's sexuality is not good, he…

That is called rape. But that is also what I was getting at. Just because you are drunk does not excuse you from putting yourself upon strangers without their permission.
/r/MensRights17/04/13 07:43 PM
2

That is not how it usually plays out. Its usually someone taking advantage of a drunk person as they have low inhibition. What people are not understanding in terms of nuance is that rapists are rapists because they are specifically looking to take advantage of someone, its not about the sex, its about control. At the same time its still possible to rape someone if they did not give consent or cannot give consent. Consent being of the usually enthusiastic sort in which its very obvious they want…

That is not what they are saying at all. Science is correct. Science man is misguided in thinking that women would want to do without bras as she does not consider them a false necessity. Its like saying "Pants can be constructive and cause chafing therefore a false necessity as maximum comfort is most important."
/r/MensRights15/04/13 04:22 PM

I find her arguments against feminism dubious at best. They are mostly reliant upon gender essentialism that reflect a more conservative Christian outlook on family structure. Not only that she basically said women are not physically capable for mathematical thinking or some such which is just an irredeemably awful thing to say.

Well... yeah but on the outset I don't think its that kind of application as they say "To be clear, Lulu isn't a place to trash-talk: Lulu's review system makes it impossible for a vindictive ex to reveal the size of a guy's itty bitty friend or claim he gave the Herp to 1,000 women." But don't get me wrong, I understand the concern, its just I don't really see any ultra solid evidence that points to Super Major. Maybe a good question is why do women need this application at all?

Disposability stems from the idea that its a man's place to die for the greater good or movement of society such as fighting in wars or the like. That its the place of men to subjugate other men as if the value of a country is solely dependant upon whether or not they can kill the entire world quicker than the other. Disposability is the result of when men prioritize the death of other men over the welfare of other men.

What concerns me more is that women have no trouble interpreting the emotion of both men and women. Or at least to my knowledge women have no trouble identifying with men, AND women. Whereas men tend to be unable to identify with women but able to identify with men. Why is this? I think its because men are taught not too, while given the media is saturated with men and their characters it's pretty much obvious that women HAVE to anyway by default since characters who are female and prominent are…

Well, I don't have any specific sources but it can be easy to note that in some commercials they play the men off as incorrigible dudebros or literal children (such as the one where the guy spills something on the couch and just flips the cushion to hide it) It bothered me because at the same time it acted like ALL men or that being a man means: Acting like a literal child and not cleaning up after yourself. I think its misguided. The trend is academia is not to blame everything on the white men but to acknowledge that it wasn't only white men who did anything of historical importance given how history books and the study of history tend to be from the white male paradigm with everyone else being the supporting cast. Because if you do not understand the ideas of others and why they come to those conclusions you do not really learn anything do you? Can someone explain to me how feminism is shooting itself in the foot here? How does this have anything to do with feminism, halp.
/r/MensRights12/04/13 04:23 PM

I see this a lot actually. And no, feminism as a school of thought does not pick and choose, it tends to address the whole pie because it has too given that its.. a school of thought. People are not losing their jobs for questioning feminism, they tend to lose their jobs for being hateful, awful people. How has feminism censored anyone? If anything it has enabled minorities and the oppressed to speak out against injustice by providing the words to do so given that it is a school of thought. Your…

Why should I if you are not even going to listen? What is the point of questioning everything if you already retroactively dislike any answer unless it falls within your own worldview? Questioning for the sake of questioning makes no sense. Why? Because not everybody has all the answers or specifically the right answer. You have to read and comprehend ideas and WHY they come to those conclusions.

I don't mean to seem callous or rude but I am still completely baffled that they even take offense in the first place considering even as insult it is not even insulting. Its like saying "You are a normal person!" in any cultural context outside of academics. This is one of those times I see someone on the internet, I just shudder to think what would happen if someone actually DID insult them with a real insult. At this rate it would seem like instant death.
/r/MensRights12/04/13 03:40 PM

The act of questioning things that don't need to be questioned (because they are a school of thought, not oppressive institutions) doesn't make you some sort of rogue free speech mogul, it just makes you look like a pedantic weirdo who wants to win a cheap argument for the sake of argument.

I find this rather frustrating because the CPS doesn't get warrants just to screw with people. They were genuinely concerned a child was in danger. The OP was wrong to be so belligerent about it and should have been more helpful and less selfish. Its refering to the systemic imbalance in how its okay to question minorities and social justice related things like feminism yet not okay to question the actual status quo of oppressive systems held up for no other reason than being WHAT we know to be 'normal'. I don't know why it invokes so much frustration for you considering it is only meant to be shorthand for straight and able bodied. (if I recall.) Its not meant to be discriminatory, its meant to clarify. I find it rather creepy you think harmless shorthand is the equivalent of discriminatory phrases with actual history of being used by awful people to disenfranchise others SOLELY on the basis of ethnic origin. Please get some perspective.

Social Justice Movements are not reactionary given that they stem from long term disenfranchisement and injustice. Reactionaries are those who stand against Social Justice because they are threatened by a perceived change in the status quo or threat to their own already established power (white supremacy, etc)

Its generally correct from the outsiders perspective. Insiders generally do not recognize the current crop of MRAs have in familiary to reactionary movements such as white supremacy. Aside from all that, I think it would be smarter to abandon military related things all together given how it exploits men. BUT that doesn't really matter to me considering I have no real idea how their cultures were in the olden days or varying upon the locations. Its much easier to speak about current things and their importance really. And that word traditionalism itself seems more along th…

Mind you this is me recalling from what I know so bear with me if I sound incorrect: Basically the institution of slavery could be seen as part as a higher order of oppression beyond patriarchy. This isn't to say that patriarchy was not involved during times of slavery. More simply: Anybody can 'belong' to the patriarchy by simply upholding it as the status quo.

I believe your perspective is flawed. Also a quick reminder that even in the event of a supposed logical fallacy it doesn't mean that the idea in question is necessarily wrong. Its quite fair to ask: why you think feminism is a movement dedicated to destroying male power?

WHOA, blatant reactionary misogyny. And not only that, it makes no sense. There is so much condescension in that image I can't even understand what they are complaining about or if their concern is actually even real and not hyperbolic.

This is problematic because it employs the straw feminist notion that women/feminists are man haters.

You are expecting too much of mainstream news stations who get their ratings from flashy headlines that involve death. I am sure such heroic action will be mentioned. The way you phrase this is completely disingenuous however as if men are generally not considered heroes in the first place? What are you saying exactly? I am curious.

The idea that feminists are a bunch of anti-sexual nags or something. Feminists advocate sexual liberty and autonomy. It goes hand in hand with how people say they are not a feminist but advocate feminist ideas. The original feminist problem with pornography was solely based in how the women involved were treated rather terribly. I believe the industry has probably evolved somewhat, but historically it has been rather nasty in some cases. Also, in relation to what feminist pornography is: pornog…

Its a circlejerk. But even at that, the nigh pedo-apologizing is pretty janky. Comparing pedophilia to a fetish is not accurate in my mind. Fetishes are based around attraction to things (physical objects or parts of the human body, or in some cases scenarios) that are not normally considered inherently sexual in a cultural context. Pedophila is bad because children cannot concent to sexual acts.

Seems like if you replace Traditionalism with Patriarchy it would mean the same thing. At least if people would understand that Patriarchy only benefits men that are in positions of power who harm men with little power. 'Traditionalism' such as slavery, forced military conscription, etc. Patriarchy in a modern sense is much less overt but still present. There is a lot of society holdovers that are still very problematic. Though in my opinion, the reason why MRAs are not taken seriously is becaus…

I don't get the OP. The advertisements imply that women are at risk the same as men. Its basically saying "Hey ladies! Did you know that Heart Disease can affect you too!?" If you are looking for treatment, just go and ask them to see if you can work something out.

Thats a tough one really. The only answer I can give is bridge your arguments in relation to modern feminist thought regarding equality while maintaining the focus upon the rights of men. If you really wanna woo them, demonstrate how the patriarchy negatively affects men. Though she did approve the project and the concept so I am curious as to why you got an F, unless of course you really messed up and only relied upon reactionary notions as to how men's rights are infringed.

There is a difference between courting someone and sexually harassing them. The main problem being that women have their own thoughts and feelings (like men) and when you dog someone with debase comments or gestures it can make them really uncomfortable. There is no Feminist hypocrisy since its feminists who believe that sexual harassment is unnecessary and opt to consider more empathy in relation to how we regard each other.

She is not really criticizing feminists so much as a misguided notion to what feminists are and what feminism is. Happens quite a bit really.
