1	There really isn't a correct way to approach women Yes there is a correct way which is the respectful way but of course there is no guarantee that it will work. 3	Being nice is the bare minimum. Most guys' definition of a good guy usually seems to be someone with basic human decency. Women on average have alot of options compared to the average man, so of course just being a good guy is not gonna be enough. You are the one that has looked bad in this discussion not him.
