I think members of this sub might be too far gone for us to help. "I have no sympathy for rape victims" should never get hundreds of upvotes

This is a horrifying stance, don't lose your humanity just because you think someone else sucks. Do you rob stores because of wage theft? For fun, go research false rape accusation stats for the US. ETA: This comment got me banned from two feminist subreddits, so I guess go nuts kids, who even cares anymore.

simple regulations can restrict predatory capitalism with much better results Oh yeah? Where? instead of understanding the opposition and arguing things point by point, you just pretend Says the kid accusing all liberals of...well, exactly this

Really? That's interesting. I literally just posted that I've never seen a man has this problem. It's normally women who get that offensive treatment

Using bigger and bigger words when I tell you that you're acting childish is a pretty classic reaction. You still haven't actually argued your point, now you're just insulting me with high school level words instead of grammar school level ones. If you'll go read what I actually said, I was addressing your argument directly, and said that as a therapist, you should know better than to make such a silly argument. Edit: Since this has degenerated into a supposed therapist insulting me with big wor…

However, this does not mean that you can make the positive claim that it is not statistically significant, which you appear to be doing, without proof of your own. That's very true, and I never said absence of evidence is evidence of absence. I just don't think female rapists are a significant portion of the Indian population. Perhaps they are. So far 4 people have made an assertive claim that female rapists exist in India. None of those people have been able to provide any evidence. When you re…

For someone who claims to be a psychologist, you certainly resorted to insults pretty quickly. I guess I ASSumed you would be a bit more rational and reasonable, and maybe not resort to the argument tactics of a six year old. I was discussing reasonably. You resorted to insults. You have lost. This conversation is no longer constructive because of you: it is obvious you have no clue Fix that, and we can continue.

how hard is it to change "daughters" and "sons" to "children"? Because then the message is "instead of telling your children not to be victims, tell your children not to be predators." Still a decent message, I guess, but not as powerful.
/r/MensRights17/07/12 01:46 PM

You honestly believe "verbal pressure" equals coercion? I believe that everything I used as examples are verbal pressure. I don't know which studies you're talking about, but I assume they were using the phrase "verbal pressure" to make a distinction between physical force and coercion. In regards to the rest of your post it is obvious you have no clue about research regarding rape. Ah, the argument of ignorance fallacy. I guess you have no clue about how to have a civil discussion. I suggest yo…

I thought it did exactly. Specifically this part: If I were to hold a class for American college students, I would make sure to mention that anyone can be a victim, and anyone can be a rapist. If I were to make an awareness poster for India or South Africa, I honestly can't say I would make it gender-neutral. Female rapists are still horrible people, but they don't appear to be statistically significant in those areas. The power of the message needs to be balanced against its all-inclusiveness. …

There is truth is this statement. For example in rape studies you will often see the term "Coercion" where it is operantly defined as "verbal pressure." Sorry, but this is redefining terms and watering down the meaning that many studies do to hyper inflate their numbers to get greater "social responses" (e.g., media outrage) and gain further support for the issue both socially and fiscally. You're a therapist and you don't believe coercion can be used to rape someone? So if a police officer says…

But even if that's what he meant, citing a fringe group of crazy bloggers isn't helping his case. Coercion is still rape. Digital penetration is still rape. These are the things being argued about. His point seems to be "well of course coercion isn't rape, look at this crazy lady who thinks childbirth is rape!"

It is insulting to focus only on female victims, or to pretend that there are only male perpetrators. I would argue for more gender-neutral language. I would argue for more gender neutral language too...if it can be demonstrated that male rapists aren't the overwhelming majority. If I were to hold a class for American college students, I would make sure to mention that anyone can be a victim, and anyone can be a rapist. If I were to make an awareness poster for India or South Africa, I honestly …
/r/MensRights17/07/12 01:01 PM

The problem I have is that he's saying "i don't believe these victims because the word rape is meaningless these days"
/r/MensRights17/07/12 12:59 PM

Yeah, I know, I saw this. Until I see an actual court case I'm assuming this is the same as rainbow parties: something the media and bloggers have invented to generate outrage

We absolutely do need to bring more attention to male victims and female perpetrators. It's still not insulting to point out that the vast majority of rapists are male. Also, I asked three different people for evidence that India even HAD female rapists and nobody was able to find a single example. I think this poster, intended for another culture, is perfectly fine.

I'm not going to argue about the definition of insult. I didn't intend to insult anyone and it wasn't even directed at anyone in this thread anyway

This was the right link after all. See the paragraph containing: So without quibbling over the precise statutory definition, this equates to rape or attempted rape. 120 men admitted to raping to attempting to rape. This is actually a relatively slim proportion of the survey population — just over 6% — and might be an underreport, though for part of the sample, the survey team did interviews to confirm the self-reports, which tends to show if there is an undercount in the self-reports, and found …

That happens in the US too. A male victim is mocked in Step Brothers

I could have sworn I gave you the right link. On my phone now but I'll look for the right one when I get back. As for your link, it portrays only males as the perpetrators. it also uses indian and US statistics interchangeably. I'm sure it's still valid data, but it doesn't support your claim.
/r/MensRights17/07/12 12:11 AM

Do you have a citation for the female-on-male rape occurrences in India? I would love to read it. Citation for you edit: we both edited our comments way up in this discussion, see the context to get the full discussion

I went back and re-read the thread and only found one person who was supporting rape even directlyindirectly. You mostly see that in other subreddits. I did find some direct victim-blaming though, if that's an "insult" that makes you feel better. I've edited my post above. If you'd like to discuss it, I'm willing. edit: Jesus, directly->indirectly. I'm on a roll with the horrible message-altering typos tonight
/r/MensRights16/07/12 11:34 PM

In this thread, where has anyone blamed the victim? I linked to direct victim blaming in my other reply, but here you go As far as I have seen, no one here (aside from trolls, which every subreddit has) supports rape. Rape is a terrible crime You rarely see actual pro-rape discussions in /r/atheism. They normally show up in /r/funny and (for some reason) /r/adviceanimals. The "comedy" subreddits love to be pro-rape. Look at the Tosh thing that's still making waves. The issue is that people assum…

Calling a post rape-supporting is not an insult, it's an observation. If calling posters rape-supporting is an insult, then you telling me I'm "throwing out insults" is an insult. I was assuming when he said "throwing out insults" he meant calling someone a stupid fucker, not saying "this is victim blaming." edit: or just downvote me, that's cool. Wouldn't want to prompt a discussion or anything. double-edit: the vote has been reversed, respect to academe for being a good person and willing to d…
/r/MensRights16/07/12 11:24 PM

Assumptions are never part of a healthy discussion. For instance, I never said you were a rape supporter. Many of the people in that thread, however, are. I don't see you supporting rape in that thread at all (I only see one sarcastic post from you altogether). here's a guy victim-blaming directly This guy claims the word rape has been redefined so drastically that it's considered rape to deliver a baby improperly This thread isn't so much rape-supporting as simply denying what rape is and victi…
/r/MensRights16/07/12 11:23 PM

to be fair, JayStrang and JasonMacker both started hurling insults pretty quickly. I didn't see them do that, but I believe you. Confronting rape-supporters victim-blamers can make someone a bit edgy. Especially when they turn around and threaten to rape your girlfriend. Twice. Which is what happened last time I discussed rape on reddit. Edit: There was no direct rape-supporting in this thread that I saw, I was thinking of one from earlier. Changed to victim-blamers, but the message is the same.
/r/MensRights16/07/12 11:05 PM

I'm honored. I'm also a full blooded white, American, naturally born male. Upper middle class, raised christian, the works. What I'm saying about rape might make you uncomfortable, but it's no less true just because you don't like it. Instead of a downvote campaign, how about we discuss it? I have a minor in formal logic and a wealth of research at my disposal. JasonMacker, JayStrang, and I are all willing to discuss things, we're not the ones throwing insults out. Come on in, talk about things.
