Japan is kind of an exception in what you could call countries with advanced legal systems. Most exclude the death penalty and have lower crime rates than the US. Japan has a very low crime though, so all this is saying to you is that there is no connection whatsoever that can be made between the death penalty or harsh sentences and a low crime rate.

Just look at the figures, the results are just not what you are hoping. There are so many countries in the world that do not have the death penalty, no prison sentences for twice the lifetime, and still they have much more reasonable crime statistics than the US. That was immensely satisfying, but strangely if felt the lady was satisfied herself. It is as if she was not looking for success but more for an excusable failure. I am speaking for myself, and for a european eye, this whole arresting process is strangely friendly and strangely violent at the same time.
