Went and volunteered in veitnam. Went back and Solo travelled all around southeast asia. Went back again and lived in thailand for 6 months. Going to backpack central america at the end of this year. I think it's designed precisely for the complete noobs to take advantage of noob gains, and to switch to something more advanced once you're stalling. I think it's changing now but you can get a 6 months tourist visa from any of the embassies in Canada(I did it through mail). I just had to take a day trip up to the Myanmar border twice to cross the border and then literally turn around and go back through thai immigration again. I speak English and some german, English is global, for the most part you're fine. There's lots of apps you can get that will translate voice on the spot for you, or text that you take a picture of. Google Translate is an app, and there's also iTranslate which costs a few dollars but works offline.
