You're pretty much right. There are some files that I need to spend the time preparing fully but they don't all need to be to that level. By insisting on that I am looking for the security blanket / excuse of being prepared instead of taking action. I know that more contact will lead to more results. More preparation will not lead to more contact nor will it lead to more results. I work essentially on my own and have for years felt like I need to be my own sales coach. I suck at that role. I app…

Thanks for the comment. You're right I need to pick a plan and stick with it. I'm not super skinny, likely about 18% BF at my current weight. Good to see you are posting your own OYS. It's the only way to make progress.

The actual call doesn't take long, 10 mins. It's the prep that takes time. Thinking it through, I am likely setting too high a bar in my prep expectations. The overwhelming expectations of it is stopping me from doing it regularly. Basically I am calling them to book a time to do a account review meeting and I feel that I need to be ready to do an impromptu meeting over the phone on the spot so I need to know their current business with me, run off a record of our past meetings, identify any out…

Been a while since I weighed myself at my regular time and conditions so I just defaulted to posting my traditional weight. I find the scale results move around a bit for me day to day but this morning was 145 at the regular time. My belt moving a notch and my appearance in the mirror tell me I am making some progress. More to go, especially to keep up with you.

Great point. It is my perfectionism that is fucking me over repeatedly. That is becoming clearer and clearer to me in recent weeks. I have been trying to adopt a "Fuck It" mentality and acting before I am totally ready and that has been an improvement and lead to progress when I have had the balls to do it. I will work on your third point and post my response.

I am finally realizing this too. Consistency, struggling through plateaus without giving up that's not what I have done in the past. I now see it is the way to progress. There are no shortcuts, no quick results. I need to be in it for the long haul. Just show up for every workout, and don't break the chain.

I was doing The Barbell Prescription in 2021 - essentially Starting Strength for guys over 40. In January I started working with an online strength coach. You're right, I wasn't putting in the effort to be consistent and to make progress with my workouts month in and month out over the past year. I agree with your FIFY correction. I was 22% BF and 153 pounds last August when I had a Dexa scan done. I am now 147. I didn't reference in my post that my goal is to get to 142 and have another Dexa do…

You are right, it doesn’t take long to call a client. Why am I postponing it? For client calls it’s that same desire to wait until it is perfect, until I am full prepared and won’t make a mistake etc. I have promised myself I would make the calls so many times. I had considered just starting with one call per day but dismissed that as not enough. I will suspend judgement of what I “should” be doing. I now see that something is better that nothing. Action is better than more preparation and promi…

That's a good observation, one I have realized as well. Earlier this week I wrote myself a note: What do I really want? I can do anything! What do I really want?? My initial response was: I want to actually find out what I am capable of, after playing it safe my whole life. That's pretty broad. The next step is to be more specific.

Am I going to finally change these habits? Yes How? I don't know yet. Just making note of when I am doing shit that doesn't matter is starting to prompt me to stop doing that and refocus. Just a few days in so I will see if it continues to help or not. I have tried time blocks a bit in the past, planning out in advance so that I know that this time is when I will do that activity but without much success. I am willing to revisit that. What is actually important to me? This all came about as a re…

OYS #31 53 5’6” 147 lbs 22% BF (at 153), wife 55 married 31 years 3 kids youngest 17 at home Last post was March 1st, when I wrote about how busy my life has gotten, that I wasn’t posting or following this site regularly. I received some comments asking about how much I work and questioning what my priorities are vs. what I say they are. Those caused me to start to think. The last few weeks it has been 10-12 hours. Plus I made the choice to honour some family commitments that involved long drives on the past two weekends. Not complaining, that's was my choice and there are always trade offs. I now better realize that things that I want to have as priorities in my life won't get done if I don't make the time for them consistently. I now know to look first to see if I am making time when things are starting to slip. OYS has helped me to realize how quickly a week p…

Interesting that it took your comment for me to realise that it is just like money. If I try to save what is left at the end of the month, there is never any money left. If I make savings a regular bill to pay like everything else it gets done automatically and I never miss it. If I make time for these things then they will get done. Time blocks for reading is the first thing I will add.

Thanks for sharing your notes. It's good to hear from somebody in a similar situation who's a bit farther down the road. It was relating to parts of DirtyNuke's posts that got me doing OYS in the first place. You lay out the rules of the game clearly. I'll go looking through your history to see what I can learn. You are right when you say "You don't have to say he's a fuckup - but when you get angry it's all kids can think of. " Part of the reason that I am here is to get better at dealing with things when they go "wrong". I have found posting OYS weekly very helpful. In order to get better at resetting daily and staying on top of my feelings, thoughts and actions I have started to do a nightly review of the day, and what I did well and where I didn't live up to my own standards of behavior.

The idea of getting sucked into the covert contract of "better odds for sex" has been a real challenge for me, and you are absolutely right that the initiations lead nowhere. I will be keeping in mind the idea of intention bleeding through everything I do. I have been doing a mix of checking boxes and doing what I want to do. Good point. In trying to establish my frame, I embraced the idea "Imagine your wife was dead, what would you do? Maybe from the anger, maybe from just my retarded ideas I have been viewing her as an enemy, someone to not show any weakness to, not someone to co-vision with.

When I struggled to get to sleep I had success in emptying my brain into a journal before bed - everything that I was thinking about / engaged in, just brief notes, one word, to record that I had thought about it. Then when I was thinking of anything while trying to sleep I just told myself "it's over there in the journal, you can deal with it in the morning." Seemed to allow me to let go of things and that seemed to allow me to go to sleep easier.

Thanks for sharing. What I have been doing is something I think of as reducing my inputs. I felt that all the web surfing, researching, and content consumption was a distraction, a way of me avoiding doing things that I needed to do. Great link. I have gotten the message to "reset everyday" more than once - something I obviously need to work on. You're right when you note that I am in a cycle of retribution, keeping score and getting butthurt. Time to move beyond that. I still quickly default to thinking how much all this matters and allowing that to drive my behaviour vs. relaxing, learning, being patient, being playful and, I guess, being outcome independent.

Great link for me to explore further. So much of your comments are bang on. The need to reset, stop keeping score, lead, all things I need to work on. Yes, I have been in the feedback loop from hell, when I default to setting my mood based on hers or what she does. Some recent success in setting my own mood. Interesting to realize from your comment that this is leadership, giving her something good to mirror.

That's a great post on the usefulness of failure. Lots to learn and implement from it. What was motivating my mindset towards initiation was outcome independence, particularly as it is referenced in this post. Focusing on what I can control, my actions and not the outcome or response that I can't control. https://www.reddit.com/r/TheRedPill/comments/2ruugd/how_to_become_outcome_independent_using_a_stoic/

Yes, I was DEERing AGAIN in my response without even being asked. I assume that you said that I don't lift is because of the program / exercises I am doing. As I work to find a way to lift that works for me, my autistic question is to clarify by asking if you are saying that I don't lift because of the program or because of the weights that I am using.

I have done Strong Lifts 5x5 starting and stopping a few times over the past few years. I get to around 150 pound squats, 100 pound bench and 75 pound over head press and then something stops me - I plateau, get injured, lose my confidence, have more and more difficulty recovering. I started the Precision Nutrition program of nutrition coaching and workouts back in January as an alternative route to lose weight and build muscle. I have lost 12 pounds in 6 months.

My strength training workouts are from the Precision Nutrition coaching program that I am doing. They are different from the big 3 or 5 lifts that most of the guys here post so I have not been posting them. Here is what I did last week: Day 1 Reverse dumbbell lunge 25 pound dumbbells, 3 reps 5 rounds Goblet Squats 25 pound dumbbell 8 reps in 20 seconds, 20 seconds rest 8 rounds Day 2 Push-ups slow tempo 5 reps 3 sets then AMRAP of 10 Plate Squat 35 pounds 15 reps 2 rounds Neutral grip seated cab…

It's not about nobody caring, it's about you caring less. Yes! That flips it around to what I can control, being productive for myself, not keeping a scoreboard and caring less and away from what I can't control, whether anyone else cares. That makes it much more positive and actionable.

Thanks for the comment. I am definitely willing to hear what you guys say and act on it. I found a non MRP article a while back that said stop being a nice guy and start being a productive guy. People don’t need nice guys, they need people who do things for them that they can’t do for themselves. What came into my mind was – “My wife needs someone who makes her wet.” Some quotes from the article that prompted me to make the comment that “People value me doing for them what they can't do for them…
