I’ve no idea what an alpha-widow is, but if you’re asking about the guys I was in love with before… When I was very young (I think 22? Don’t actually remember precicely) I was deeply in love with this guy who lived in a different city. We chatted and texted a lot, but I think we may only have met up twice. In retrospect, that was hardly enough to claim you know someone well, but hey, you’re young, lol. I could never get that commitment from him, even though he was very aware of my feelings for h…

Curious what you had been expecting! 😁 I had to look up Leudal, haha. Limburg is quite its own little entity. It's Dutch but it's hugging Belgium and Germany so tightly we don't always consider it the most Dutch of Dutch places.

The Netherlands is a highly secular country with a very non-hierarchical structure. Most often, managers and bosses are addressed by their first name by their employees for example. We're also a country with a deep history of Calvinism and while, like I said, we're very securar today, the mindset of Calvinism remains. A big example of this is we don't stick our head above the grain field 😂 It's called "doe normaal" (behave normally). A woman admitting she is submissive to a man is considered ODD…

I'm sure there are! But finding people on your own continent seems fair too.

I guess because that kind of submission is seen as “not real” and just for fun! I have to say, though, I feel like there is this small shift happening, fuelled by the housing crisis in my country. I notice more and more people realize the two-income-no-guarantee-of-a-house situation is causing a few cracks here and there. I feel like (some) people start noticing that it’s not sustainable to expect families to run on two exhausted working parents. There have been several news reports that young w…

Aah, I'm so glad to find another Dutchie! You're so right and it's so exhausting. Did you discuss this dynamic with your husband or did you simply start implementing this behaviour? :)

It’s to be expected on reddit, I suppose :) Where are you from?

This makes me so sad for you. I think a lesson here is that you could have been the sweetest, most well-intended woman in the universe and he still would have emotionally abused you. He would always have found things to blame you for. The things said and the way he tried to control you seem utterly bizarre from my perspective. Nothing about this says loving guidance or healthy leadership. I believe you will be better off. What woman can last in a relationship with a man who blatantly tells her w…

Ooh. Wow, ok. I guess maybe in real life the parents already made a conversion attempt and she was trying to gain some perspective here? That's my kindest reading of the situation, lol.

Wait, what. She's actually the nanny?

Well, sorry to say this, but your husband may want to reconsider his values. Hiring someone with the intent to convert them is incredibly disingenuous, not to mention very unclassy.

It's like you think "converting" is only a matter of external behaviour. Converting means you come to believe in whatever faith you feel is right. That's an internal process, extremely personal and can take years. How you and your husband do not understand this is a mystery to me

Babtism means nothing if the heart isn't in it. Then it's just sprinkling someone with water. I can't believe you don't realise how absurd this all sounds. Saying this as Christian.

Right, and who do you think Jesus would appreciate more? The person actually feeding the poor or the people who are just sitting on their ass inside the church walls?

This is awful. Ask her to convert, as if you're asking her to buy a different brand of cheese. Giving her a BONUS to convert? Are your serious? She sounds like a very lovely and smart person who is far less judgemental of your beliefs than you two are of hers. I mean "she has a degree in philosophy so she must be a liberal", please, can you not see how unkind you are speaking of her? If she found out how you both truly feel, she would probably leave the job.

I'm already married and don't really care for the male gaze in general. I feel like I'm a certain type of person and I dress in a way that expresses that image, I guess? For me, that's the somewhat vintage-y, kitchen garden enthusiast mum, which comes through in knitted cardi's and fl colourful skirts or dresses. I don't know. It makes me feel confident and like my outside matches my inside.

I think that the woman's place is in the kitchen. …When she’s hungry, right?

I don’t normally post on this sub (I just lurk) but this hits way too close to home. Just a few months ago, my family discovered that my father was the married man in your story - that is, that he had been having an affair with a woman we all knew. Of course, details will differ in your story and mine, but here’s the thing: don’t be that woman. Don’t. You know exactly what you’re destroying. ESPECIALLY with children involved. You know he is married. You know he has a family. You know they don’t …

If it’s so hard to take a woman seriously, then why are you putting all responsibility for your emotional wellbeing on us? What I’m getting from you is “women should say X or Y to me, because then I will feel good”. What I’m getting from you is: “Oh, I can see the root cause but I need women to be take me through it step by step anyway”. What I’m getting from you is: “I’m a victim and women should just figure out how to talk to me just right, so that I will feel validated in exactly the way I fe…

My friend, I’m gonna say this out of genuine concern: you need to gain some emotional maturity. If it’s emotional support you need, ask for emotional support. Don’t disguise it as attacking some random selection of girls in a random YouTube clip. They can easily help the guy by attacking the women who propagated the idea in the first place. For ex: "I dont know who put that idea in you but they are wrong. Some women are horrible. They are not the majority. Obviously, someone’s already told you th…

Where are the female commentators saying they disagree with the statements the women are making. Where? Right here. We just told you. You are wrong BECAUSE we disagree with that bullshit. But okay. Go ask other women, why not? Go to r/AskWomen or r/AskReddit and ask “Women of reddit, what made you fall in love with your SO?” Or do a search for something alike, I’m sure there are plenty of such threads already. Then read their answers. Notice how many stories are sweet, non-toxic, non-abusive, no…

You seem to be having a very hard time listening to people. I think you need a hearing aid. And, not that it matters, but 6 ft (1,80 cm, give or take?) is avarage male height in my country. It’s not considered to be super tall or very short. I’ve happily dated guys much shorter, and it just made kissing and hugging a lot easier tbh. I dunno what your fixation on height is, but it’s weird.

Woman: I don’t want a bad boy. You: Yes, you do. Woman: No, I don’t. Most women do not. You: Yes, you do. God. You’re an arrogant prick, and yet I find your behaviour completely unattractive. Explain that.

Of course I'm a failed man, being helpless with women at my age is inexcusable. And yeah, I wish I wasn't the way I am nowadays, but I didn't choose to become like this. Oh stop throwing yourself a pity party. My husband was in his 30s when we met, his previous romantic fling had happened over 10 years ago by that point and that barely included anything sexual at all. Yes, he was one of those geeky introverted shy guys who didn’t know how to talk to women, or so he told me. I was amazed. Because…

I live in one of the most student-friendly city in the Netherlands, so young, smart and ambitious young men all around. OP would fit right in with her qualifications. But Dutch men, especially at OP's age, are very egalitarian. Although many women work part time, things like SAHMs are probably rarer than in the US. Don't get me wrong, I think the Netherlands is one of the safest and healthiest countries to live, but you won't really run into men who will naturally assume leadership in the relati…
