You're making the naive assumption of comparing men and women by comparing the very best man with the very best woman. That would be like comparing pay rates for men and women by comparing the highest paid man with the highest paid woman. Men have more variability in performance.

women being better at long distances because of superior lipid metabolism is broscience. That is an interesting study but it directly contradicts you. "However, there are also reasons why women could outperform men at longer distances. Women have greater fat stores and tend to oxidize fat at a higher rate than men"
