You're already half way there. To be precise with your words means you need to have the vocabulary for it. I noticed I use big words more frequently if I saw it used in a book. Bigger vocab = fewer concise words. That's why I like Sam Harris so much. Writing and reducing is also a great way to practice. You may have an issue where you respond without thinking. I had that problem. I just give myself 5-10 seconds to process what I want to say as a rough copy before it flies out fo my mouth.
