Really enjoyed reading this, great thoughts.

One thing I stopped doing as I grew older, was feigning interest in a conversation to be polite/agreeable. I have a friend who does this (he's 30), he happily nods along to whatever someone is saying, throws in "yeah! uh huh, uh huh, ok, wow yeah!", and fake laughs at any joke. His intentions are good, and he's a friendly guy, but his responses will encourage a "talker" (you know the type) to just... keep going. It's the most apparent at bars when talking with girls. When I talk to an attractive…

Yeah man let me get back to you, I'm on an airport shuttle and my service is crap. I can tell you some insightful lessons as a guy who habitually dates shy girls.

Dan Savage gives a good talk regarding this. I'm casually seeing a shyer, less confident girl, and she's not my first either. And yeah, I can find it tiring sometimes when my compliments are met with an explanation of why that's not actually true. But I just shrug and keep complimenting her when I feel like it. I've found that it's possible to be the person that helps someone transition from "I'm shy and not confident" to "I used to be shy and not confident, for quite a while really." I find it …

Hmm, that's possible, but the two IG profiles I actually looked up were marked Private until you added them.

Fair point on communicating through pictures and limited characters. Texting is vastly more casual/low pressure than a phone call (especially a cold phone call, mad respect to all generations before us), and snapchat is even less pressure, because there's no history of messages, so it's a more spontaneous and nobody has high expectations of a real conversation.

Huh, I'm an avid Snapchat user with my friends, but I never noticed any semblance of a "social network" to it, unlike ig or fbook (which I also use). Your answer seems logical, and also depresses me.

Haha, I can picture it perfectly. I've never tried snapchatting a girl before. They will even post a Moment with "Bored, snapchat me: [their username]", again, what the hell are they looking for? Just goofy random shit like I send to my friends? I highly doubt it's dick pics they're looking for

Well shit, my first thought was "there's no way people are dunking their arms into a pitcher and drinking from it, so how do they do it?" Touche

Yeah this definitely works, Moments are my jam. More importantly, how do you get the rum glass out of the pitcher each time when it sinks to the bottom? And wouldn't it slide out and spill beer when you pour the cup of beer afterwards?

This is easy as hell on paper, but hard to "accept" in the moment: YOU NEED TO START IMMEDIATELY. Here's what works for me: Hug her when you meet her. Don't shake her hand (that's awkward) and don't do nothing (that's slightly less awkward than shaking her hand, but it INITIATES this awkward limbo where now SHE feels awkward too-- neither party is really sure where this night is going). You're going to feel awkward no matter how you greet her. Have something planned to say after you open your fr…

Chalk it up as a loss? The "loss" would have been if she rejected you. This is an entirely different situation, it's not even related to the girl anymore at this point. Why would you give up on a girl who gave you her number because a completely irrelevant coworker didn't want you to see her? This entire scenario blows my mind. I would be halfway to the park by now, why is this coworker's opinion even factoring into your decision?

I'm most definitely an introvert but I think it's a moot point anyways. As I've understood the introvert/extrovert comparison, you behave the same in a social gathering (not that it doesn't require effort for an introvert). You can be outgoing and friendly with a group of people, however as an introvert it requires energy whereas an extrovert gains energy from being around people. I go out to a party/bar and do great with meeting people (guys and girls alike), but it exhausts me and I typically …

This is all correct, well put. Definitely the point on "talking to girls where you aren't trying to get anything from them", and to an even simpler extent, just talking to strangers period. Forget how nerve-wracking it is speaking to girls you like-- get over the awkwardness of talking to a complete stranger first. That EXACT same feeling is there in your stomach. I used to despise talking to strangers, then I started doing it more often, and it was just as difficult as getting used to flirting …

I find it extremely difficult to maintain that mindset. I've been working on it for maybe 8 years now and I'm still not 100% consistent with it. Truly tragic events (deaths, etc.) can only be viewed as utter tragedy to me, and my system breaks down there. It's only after many months am I able to re-frame and cope with it. However, I have excellent success with all 'non-tragic' bullshit in my life, and that's the more common negativity you deal with in life. The non-tragic events are the ones tha…

I agree with the lion's share of his points, but I would lengthen the title to: "9 Qualities of Truly Confident People, As Presented In a Work Setting". I would agree with 100% of his points in a work setting, and I see those points validated by many confident people I've worked for and with. In a social scenario, the message behind these points are still 100% spot on, just not all of the details. I disagree with one of the other top comments on how "passing the limelight onto others is instruct…

That actually reminds me, a lot of fraternity guys would sign up to be dishwashers etc at sororities. The pay and hours were decent, but more importantly, you're around the girls a LOT, not tucked in the back of the kitchen. If I was ever hanging out at a sorority (which I did rarely), those guys would always be joking and teasing the girls about leaving food on their plate etc. Literally every girl in the sorority knew them by first name.

I always despised approaching girls ON the dance floor at college parties, I felt uncomfortable (works for a lot of guys though, don't get me wrong). There was always groups of people hanging out around the house or on the porch, and I would meet people out there (forget about meeting the girls and talk to the dudes genuinely, the girls will take notice, trust me). Once you're comfortable with the group of people, I would make small talk with a cute girl and get her to laugh, and then if people …

The nights when you and your buddies go out to just play pool at the bar (and not actively try and meet girls), are the nights you end up with a girl in your bed. The girls getting hit on by all the horny dudes are watching you play from across the room, it's like magic, I swear.
