Yeah if you look at my edit. I explained a bit more. But handgun rounds have ALOT more oomph to them than a 5.56 round. The bullets weigh a lot more. When a .223 or 5.56 round hits an object or person, the bullet starts to tumble, slowing down vastly.

Technically yes, I guess it depends on what you mean by worse. Will it penetrate at the same level? No. But In a home defense scenario it’s a good thing. When I talk about over penetration, I’m taking about a bullet going through the bad guy, your wall and then nailing the neighbor or his dog. (The bullet not stopping or significantly slowing down after it hits the target) Edit: yes a 5.56 or .223 round has less of a risk of over penetration. This is why you see SWAT Teams using the AR15/M4/M16 …

AR’s are great for home defense. Don’t have to worry about over penetration like handguns, don’t have to worry about destroying your home like a shotgun. High capacity. Way better than handguns or shotguns.
