You don’t think so? Have you ever listened to the Ologies podcast?

What conflation?

That man you described isn’t attracting women. He’s buying them. And I don’t agree that most guys would rather date a mean slut just because she’s hot. Why would you? Genuinely. Most of the time spent in a relationship is just talking or being in each other’s company.

I don’t really understand your reply. A lot of attraction is based on attitude and conversation. And what people do for work often influences what and how they think.

Caring about what you do most days isn’t healthy? Asking about salary is crazy, but asking about your job is just basic getting to know you. Telling me you work an office 9-5 or telling me you work 12 hour days for a startup gives me no information about your actual income. Gold diggers will already know what to expect from your shoes, your watch and your haircut.

Asking about work is normal. Asking about salary is weird. They aren’t the same thing at all. Asking about work is trying to get to know someone and how they spend their time. You can easily redirect if you don’t want to talk about it. “I work a boring 9-5. What about you? Do you enjoy your work?” That gives no indication of salary at all and kind of shuts down that line of discussion without being rude or defensive.

I feel like asking about a job is very different than asking about finances. One of the first questions I ask new people is what they do for work. I also ask what they do for fun. I guess I’m really trying to ask how they spend their time. I’m not trying to gauge their wealth, I’m trying to get to know who they are. I also like to ask new people about their favorite co-worker because that’s usually a good conversation starter.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
