True, but the record shows that most expressions evolved from reasonable circumstances that are accurately described by those expressions. In other words, it may be incorrect to discount an expression's factual relevance solely on the basis that it happens to be an expression.

I wouldn't consider that oppression. Women exercised plenty of political power prior to receiving the right to vote, so it was not an unfair or cruel misuse of power to keep them disenfranchised. "Rights" are nearly always misconstrued as natural or universal rights, and the fact is that much of the time we're talking about privileges, not rights. Voting "rights" are a privilege granted to members of society provided they meet certain conditions (age, citizenship, etc.). Similarly, education is …
